Because VA is a Title theory state, in regards to ownership, it is pretty easy to show a deed and a piece of mail that was received and dated within the last week. Yes indeed. A couple of key points on the private sale thing... 1) Make sure your firearm has proper serial numbers 2) Require that the purchaser shows you a valid Virginia Driver's License 3) Make sure that your firearm is LEGAL TO OWN both federally and int he Commonwealth. Rick is on the money. It is federal law that applies, not state law when people from different states are involved.

I will answer one of your questions since I moved here from WA. Virginia recognizes WA's CHP. I still have two more years left on my WA permit so I haven't gotten my VA yet.
The few police officers who I have talked to don't know much about it, but I haven't had any problems yet.
