Thanks one and all for the feedback. I guess the primary culprit is the way the ammo is manufactored and not so much the gun. The issue looks to be one of those "go figure" things that help to make guns so interesting.
Thanks again everyone and happy shooting!

Why do semi-autos handle ammo differently?
I keep hearing about how semi-autos are fussy with ammo. One gun will fire a certain brand of ammo flawlessly while another gun of the same make and model will fire that ammo inaccurately or with numerous jams. Anyone know why this is? I've always wondered about this.

Re: State Police Weapons Qualification
Sorry it took so long to check in. The recent stroms had my satellite internet down.
So I guess that the VA State Police qualification requires point shooting at close range and standard 2-handed shooting at farther distances. That makes sense to me. Thank you one-and-all for the clarification.

Re: State Police Weapons Qualification
Here ya go. This is what I have from a file named "VA LEOSA Qualification". I forget where I got it from. I cut out section 2 which dealt with semiautos in order to save space. Virginia Authorized Firearms Qualifications Courses Every criminal justice officer required to carry a firearm in...

State Police Weapons Qualification
I would like to be able to meet the VSP pistol qualification standards since it's a good indication of your skills should you ever have to defend yourself in court after a self defense shooting. I have a copy of the shooting test but it doesn't seem quite right. The test has the officers shooting &q...

Re: I have a few questions...New pistol owner!
If you are carrying the gun, loaded/unloaded is immaterial. If you are transporting the gun, like in your trunk, through another state, it needs to be unloaded If the handgun is concealed, and you do not have a permit, then it has to be unloaded, cased and out of reach. If the handgun is in the ope...

Re: I have a few questions...New pistol owner!
I'm a little confused about some of the previous posts. A lot is being said about unloading the gun. I always understood that, under the law, a gun is a gun and that its loaded/unloaded condition is immaterial. So long as one is permitted to possess a handgun an openly carry it, what's the fuss abou...

Thank you VBshooter. Read the website and signed up. As an Army vet and former Campus Policeman was happy to discover such an organization.

Re: Non citizen
My wife, a German citizen living here for 10 years, also had to show 3 months of utility bills to buy a handgun last fall. Caught us by surprise as she had bought guns before without this requirement. The gun shop said that this was the government's plan to prevent terrorists from getting their hand...

Re: Richmond vet wins right to keep flagpole in yard
Somehow, I doubt anyone there would have been offended if the vet had urinated on the flag and wrote "Bush lied, kids died" on it. It would have been defended by the ACLU as "freedom of speech".

My name's added. It's a disgrace what this undocumented president and the congressional demorats have been doing to our troops and defenders since the "war on terror" started; nothing less than treason.

Re: .25/.32 ACP for self-defense?
Thanks for all the tips. They've given us some other options to consider. We'll be looking out for a tip-up barrelled .380 (didn't know they made them) and also get the wife to practice non-dominant hand shooting. Thanks again from the wife and myself.

.25/.32 ACP for self-defense?
I've been wondering about the .25 & .32 calibers for self-defense. There are a number of gun companies selling guns in these calibers saying that modern ammo manufacturering has made these calibers acceptable for SD. The issue is my wife who broke her wrist which never properly healed meaning th...

Remington 870 Slide Question
We've got a 20 ga Remington 870 Youth Express shotgun. When the slide is pushed forward the slide has about 1/4-1/2 inch of play. Is this normal? I'm a handgunner, not a shotgunner.

"does anyone know or have a clue of what the worst outcome could be?" I would recommend you contact the Virginia Citizen's Defense League (www.vcdl.org) and ask them about worst outcomes. These guys are THE premier source for VA gun laws and procedures. They would probably be able to tell ...

Re: On Line Conceal Carry Classes?
Personnally, I don't understand the whole on-line training thing. If VA only wants "trained" people to carry concealled, watching a video and taking a quiz over and over until you memorize the required answers can hardly count as being trained. On the other hand, if the idea is that one sh...

The way I here it around here, Lee never surrendered his sword to Grant. Lee thought Grant was a lackey and gave him his sword to have it polished.
