This article on US Concealed Carry is a must read for everyone. It’s likely that no matter how long you’ve been handling firearms, you’ve broken one of these rules a time or two. Some are outright ridiculous – what people will do with a firearm such as looking down the barrel. Some of the listed safety violations aren’t quite as blatant, but can prove to be just as deadly.
NRA 3 Rules
- ALWAYS keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
- ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
- ALWAYS keep guns unloaded until ready to use.
A couple of others that I always keep in mind are
- ALWAYS treat any firearm as if it is loaded.
- NEVER point your firearm at anything that you don’t intend to destroy.
