I was right the first time yesterday. New Hampshire honors Virginia *resident* permits, but does NOT honor Virginia *non-resident* permits. So, if you live in Virginia and have a Virginia CHP, you can carry in New Hampshire. If you don t live in Virginia, you can t carry on a Virginia permit.

The confusion came from a letter to the Virginia State Police from the Commissioner of the Department Of Safety in New Hampshire clearly indicating that New Hampshire would honor both resident and non-resident permits from Virginia.

My understanding of New Hampshire law was that this had not been the case in the past and seemed to contradict what was on their own reciprocity webpage. I looked up their law (Section 159:6-d Full Faith and Credit for Licenses From Other States: Reciprocity ) and the law had not changed to honor non-resident out-of-state permits.

So, I called the New Hampshire Commissioner s office, who referred me to a lieutenant who handles reciprocity issues. He was surprised to hear what I had to say and confirmed the letter was INCORRECT. They will be sending a corrective letter to the Virginia State Police and I have notified the Virginia State Police of all of this.

Sorry for the confusion, but we had to get this right and I m now comfortable that we have done so.

Here is the New Hampshire law:

http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/rsa/htm ... 59-6-d.htm

159:6-d Full Faith and Credit for Licenses From Other States; Reciprocity. Notwithstanding the provisions of RSA 159:6, no nonresident holding a current and valid license to carry a loaded pistol or revolver in the state in which he resides or who is a peace officer in the state in which he resides, shall be required to obtain a license to carry a loaded pistol or revolver within this state if:
I. Such nonresident carries upon his person the license held from the state in which he resides; and
II. The state in which such person is a resident provides a reciprocal privilege for residents of this state.

Neither does PA anymore. I think it has to do with the internet qualification.
