The Hurricane Prep Thread

What are you stocking up on in preparation for the storm?.

I'm picking up extra groceries (mostly non-perishables), water, batteries, etc.

Grabbed some jumbo blue tarps, rope, duct tape at the new Northern by Janaf. You never know.

I also grabbed a 1200 rd case of Russian 7.62x39. Just in case. Call first before coming over.

Whatcha got?

Moved boat from slip to trailer to back yard.

Filled generator with fuel and moved it into place, then took gas cans to Sheetz to refill them.

Will get groceries tomorrow - hope there's still something left...

That's all for now.

Water, water, Coleman camp fuel, full gas tanks in the car and more water. If the power goes out, so does the well. A generator is high on my list of preparedness supplies to get.

Isn't that a necessity that one should stock a large supply of at all times anyways?

Let's at least talk guns. We're all always saving up for our next score. Mine's probably a .357 wheel gun. You?

My dad gave me his S&W 686 some years ago. I love shooting it. Bought a Ruger LCR in .357 ...seem to fragile in my opinion.

I don't need to really go out and get anything. There are long term upgrades like a generator, but I'm pretty much set for a few weeks if needed.

Got everything I need with the exception of some extra batteries for my flashlights and headlamps. Also need Gorilla tape. Don't waste your money on duct tape go with the good stuff. As always bottles of water full, candles on hand, spare food ready and extra propane for camping stove and grill. The defense aspect is as good as it's gonna get for now, 10/22 with stock 10 round mags(need some 25 rounders). A generator would be nice. If I had another week to prepare I think I wouldn't have any problem building one of those alternator lawnmower generators.

Since Isabel I moved to a new house 7 feet higher above sea level, with better drainage. The new place is next to the only substation on the Peninsula that did not go down in Isabel. We were out 8 days, my friend next to the substation, about 1 mile away from my old house was out for 10 minutes. Subdivision with underground utilities is 1 pole away from substation. Of course this did not stop a six hour outage a couple of years back when a driver knocked down the pole. Installed a whole house generator and switched to gas hot water. My wife has stocked the house full of food, water, batteries. New place has no trees close to house. So unless the winds get too high I should be good to go. That being said a drift to the East would be welcome. Saturday morning need to bring in the trash cans and tie down the grill and pop some popcorn.
