Dilbert Strip![]() Heh. So rattle my bones all over the stones, I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns. Oh, see how words as old as sin, fit me like a glove.
I'm here and here I'll stay.
Re: Dilbert StripReminds me of the program I was watching last night on the Tee-Vee...

Re: Dilbert StripWe see this with "preppers" all the time!
Got a GREAT set of provisions, and NOTHING to protect it. You have to be harsh to change some of their minds, for example, some yuppie preppers in the Fan where I used to live, I flat out told him, "You know? If things REALLY go south, I'm gonna take yer kids, sell them, keep your wife, and trade you for ammo to the 'sisters' from Shawshank... Right?" He blinked, and then we talked about firearms. Sometimes you have to verbally slap them into realization. ![]()
Re: Dilbert Strip A shooting buddy of mine in the late 70's somehow got on a survivalist mailing list. They sold all the stuff that Dilbert mentions and more. We both got a good laugh out of the whole idea. I found a great quote somewhere at the time that summed up our thoughts on the SHTF scenario: "I don't need gold coins. If you have your gold coins and I have my firearm, I'll end up with your gold coins and my firearm." "To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them" -George Mason, American Statesman (1725-92)

For those of us with a sense of morals the solution isn't that simple. ![]() “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

Think of it as "just-in-time logistics". "To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them" -George Mason, American Statesman (1725-92)
Re: Dilbert Strip
Yeah, the right thing to do might involve an alliance...you can only shoot one gun at a time and if its just you what happens when 2 guys come around and take your weapon and the gold coins you took from the other guy... No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Dilbert StripSorry, I thought that this was a light-hearted discussion about a comic strip. Apparently I misunderstood.

Re: Dilbert StripWho said I wouldn't have a lil' band of "merry men"?
As I have told people before, in the break down of society, you'd better have three things: 1.) A useful skill. 2.) A decent firearm. 3.) A WHOOOOLLEEE lot of "tact". As was told to me by my Hillbilly relatives, "beware the man who approaches with an open hand, and a smile, he is not always your friend." And Dogbert would rule them all!
Re: Dilbert Strip I needed that. sorry... need vs needed so I had to edit. I still needed that ![]() "The deeper sorrow cleaves into your soul the greater it's capacity to contain joy" -DeSade

+1
This may work for a while, but consider the likelihood that the people you steal from just might kill you as word gets around that that's the kind of person you are. Don't be surprised if some people, whom you haven't tried to rob yet, get a bit proactive about the situation. You're going to look like the Michelin Man wearing armor all the time or end up dead if you try that more than a few times.
+1 That's a nice dose of reality. Rambo is fiction after all...
Re: Dilbert StripDecent discussion regarding SHTF prep and fits in with the current discussion...and my apologies...language alert...not suitable for the office or children...

Re: Dilbert StripWhat we were thinking was more of a "cyclic" community, set up three communities after the disaster, and rotate the personnel simply to give them all an opportunity to learn the terrain, but also to keep fresh eyes on a situation.
When you look at the same tree for a week at a time, yes, you can tell some differences, but it also gives you "woods gaze" where you just faaadddeee out in your stare.
