Real storiesIt would be nice to hear/read real stories about self defense (with or without the use of a handgun or other weapon) from our readers. Something similar to "It Happened to me" articles in Combat Handguns magazine will help educate the readers of this foum in dealing with life threatening situations.
Re: Real stories
Sounds like a good idea to me. Luckily, I;ve never been in a situation worth talking about. Who wants to go first?

Re: Real storiesIn all of my misadventures while armed, I never had to draw the gun. Either the sight of it was enough or I handled it and it was never a part of the incident (drunk guy going over the counter after the casher. I gabbed him from behind in a full Nelson and introduced his forehead with the counter top... hard. I held him there for the police. They took him and said "Thanks, bye." I was open carrying a S&W Model 59 at the time in Shreveport Louisiana.
Re: Real storiesThere is a funny story involving me and that old S&W... I was working as a mechanic and was on a wrecker run for my brother who I worked for. My job was to drive 100 miles and pick up a car at a dealership to bring back to our shop for frame repair. When I got there, they wouldn't release the car to me! I call my brother and he tells me to put the manager on. I do and go stand in the shop with my arms crossed across my chest, hands away from the VERY visible gun on my hip. A little set up is in order. I am 6'1" tall and weighed around 250 back then and wasn't very fat if you get my drift. I also had an attitude. I flat out didn't give a ****. The manager is on the phone arguing with my brother when all of a sudden he looks at me, talks to Tommy (my brother) looks at me again, talks to my brother a little calmer and then hangs up. He then calls one of his shop boys and instructs him to lead me to the car I came for and help me in any way he could!
I never reacted and simply got the car and headed home. When I got there, I asked Tommy what he told that guy to turn him around like that. Tommy told me he said to him "You see that big ol boy I sent down there? I told to get that car and bring it back. Now this is a $200 tow and that boy is gonna bring back that car, a fender or whatever he decides will cover that tow but he ain't coming back empty handed!" Apparently, the manager bought it! ![]()
Re: Real storiesBe very carefull about what you post about your use of a weapon . It won't matter if it was in self defense or not . If you have to go to court or get sued the post can follow you to court and at time's can put you in a bad situation with the right lawyer asking question that you don't or can't answer.

Excellent advice, Bill. Everything we post on the Internet will live forever, somewhere. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke
Re: Real stories
Yes indeed. You don't know how many times I type something only to delete it before I press the submit button. There have already been some cases where people were prosecuted for making threats on the Internet. Death or bodily harm threats are considered felonious and intent does not have to be proved. if you make a threat with no intent of carrying it out - doesn't matter. Also since the Internet is worldwide, guess what. You also just crossed a state line. The one that concerns me is HR 1966 - Hate crime act. Its passed the House and now in the Senate. The House version states: Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce [radio, TV, internet] any communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person, using electronic means to support severe, repeated, and hostile behavior, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both. (HR 1966, SEC 3, Sec. 881a) The Senate version deleted this passage but they'll have to pass their version back to the House if its passed by the Senate. Think about having a law with this kind of language and consider our MJ jokes thread. That's some scary stuff. The context here is protected groups like minorities, sexual deviants, etc. Would make it a crime for a pastor to preach a sermon over radio against homosexuality or post such content on the Internet. No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Real stories"communication, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass,"
Funny. When a government does that it's diplomacy, when a citizen does it's a felony.
Re: Real stories
That's the clause I have the most trouble with. So if you hurt someone's feelings belonging to one of these so called protected groups you can actually go to prison. IMO, that's pretty lame and It has definitely caused "substantial emotional distress" to me. I can't honestly believe that someone in Congress actually thought that up. Hey, it was also posted on the congressional web site. Message to Congress: please report to Sing Sing at 0700 1 July. You are in violation of your own stupid proposed law. Edit: After a moments consideration I'm not sure I belong to any of those groups unless 1/8 American Indian qualifies. No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Real storiesWhat ever happened to "If you don't like it, change the channel"? If you don't like it and it causes you distress, then DON'T READ IT, HOMO!

Re: Real stories
Now there ya go NOT being politically correct. If we would all just be politically correct and not speak our opinions then we wouldn't need laws like HR1966. Since we can't be politically correct on our own Congress will legislate for us that we have to be. That's how a certain political party thinks. They believe we can't, and shouldn't be allowed to, think for ourselves so they try to legislate how we should think. There are certain states they've been trying it in for years. I guess since it didn't work there they figure it's time to try it on a national level and see if it works any better.
