Changes to the new post pageThe addition of Tapatalk is great. Much easier to keep up with the forum on a mobile. Thanks.
I was thinking about the view flow on the regular page though and had some suggestions. The primary use of the new post thread page is to keep up with how things have changed since your last visit (duh). However, the links to the thread which has the new post is the same as browsing the general forum. I usually end up doing the following: 1. Refresh the new posts page. 2. Hit the thread title or last page link. 3. Hit the newest unread post or scroll down. There is an additional step if the last unread post is actually on the previous page (i.e. it rolled over with new posts since the last visit). This wastes bandwidth and I was thinking of a few minor tweaks to help you keep the BW usage under control as the site scales. I would prefer that the thread title link (on the new posts page) be changed to just default to the last read post regardless of what page of the thread it is on. Alternatively a last read post for that thread on the new posts page would also work, but i think the first option keeps it cleaner. Also, an option in your profile to default your post login page to the new posts page would also save a bit of BW. I typically log in, see the board and immediately hit the new posts page. It would save one page load per login. These changes would help your BW usage fees and people on slow connections. I don't know how your advertisement revenue would be affected though.
Re: Changes to the new post pageSorry, I missed this post the first time around. I just added a "Refresh Page" link to the newposts page. I will have to evaluate the other stuff that you've written up here and get back to you.
Re: Changes to the new post page
Who asked for a refresh link? Isn't that what F5 does?
Re: Changes to the new post pageI asked for a refresh link...and I got it!
My linux mind doesn't work well with function keys.
Re: Changes to the new post page
It works in FF on Linux as well as that is usually what I use. ![]()

Are you speaking specifically to Tapatalk? Scott B --- States don’t have rights. People do.
Re: Changes to the new post pageI don't know if we're talking about the same thing here, but before the holidays I could jump into a thread from an email noticication, put up where I had last read, then select a new topic from a list of current posts which appeared on every page. This was great as most of my viewing is from a mobile device while on the bus. Something has changed around the new year. Accessing from the notification only allows me to read the one post. The .net version is difficult to navigate via my blackberry. I'm better off just logging in from the beginning from .org.
Hope this makes sense. Been avoiding reporting this until I could do so from a workstation. [ Post made via Mobile Device ] ![]()
Re: Changes to the new post page
I made a major change to the layout of the mobile site in an effort to minimize all of the clutter on the small mobile screen. I wasn't aware that you couldn't read a whole thread when visiting from a notification. I'll definitely look at this and try to get it corrected. Sorry 'bout that!
Re: Changes to the new post page
^^ I have this question as well
Re: Changes to the new post pageEither. The idea is that from the new posts page you don't have to select anything other than the title of the thread and it takes you to the last unread post for you.
Re: Changes to the new post pageMany thanks. Looking forward to relief.

Re: Changes to the new post pageI just clicked the first link in the notification that I received on this thread and the whole thread was displayed... ???
Although not optimal with auto scroll to the last unread post... [ Post made via Mobile Device ] ![]()
Re: Changes to the new post pageOk,I messed up. The notification does indeed work. I can't navigate once on the site after reading the thread my only option is "View new posts". Selecting that displays the posts, but if I choose one, it takes me to forum lists rather than the posts. Selecting view new posts does the same again. I CAN select a forum and then a post from there, but don't know which forum has the post I was interested in.
Maybe an option is being displayed off my screen? [ Post made via Mobile Device ] ![]()

Re: Changes to the new post page
Thanks. I never realized that was a separate link! That is what I wanted, although it would make more sense to have it be noted as such or just be the default.
Re: Changes to the new post page
Good grief...its finally about time...I knew something that ole smarty pants Garrett didnt...that little pinky link thing to take you to the newest post since you last visited... ![]() No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Changes to the new post page
Doesn't work for me. Sitting at my laptop now with the blackberry logged in for testing. When selecting, "View new posts": - Topics list appears - Choices are: -- Pick a topic. -- Pick the name of the user who posted. -- Choosing the name brings up the profile of the user who posted. -- Choosing the icon to the left brings up the forums. -- Choosing a topic highlights both title and profile and brings up the forums. When selecting a forum: -- Brings up Announcements and Topics. -- Choosing a topic highlights everything on that line, no matter where on the line you place t he cursor. The topic is displayed. From within a topic I see no exit other than a house, view new topics, user control panel, or logout: -- Choosing the house brings up the forums. -- Choosing the "view new posts" displays new topics. Choosing a topic displays the forums. (see above) -- User control panel works. -- Logout works. What usesd to happen is I'd be able to scroll all the way to the top or bottom (can't remember which) and I'd see the "Recent Posts" listing. I'd read a topic then move on to my next selection in recent posts. "Recent Posts" no longer appears. I see on my laptop it appears to the right of the topics. That would be off my screen on the blackberry.
