INFO:
1. The scope mount included is a raised mount that installs over the rear sight with two bolts through the existing rear sight pin holes. No drilling or milling was required to install it. It's raised enough to allow the original iron sights to still be usable up to 100 meters. The only drawback to this type of mount, is that your scope must have a large eye relief. You can get other scope mounts that will allow the scope to sit further back, but those will require tapping and drilling into the receiver and will no longer allow the use of the iron sights. In fact, all the other options I saw, required the removal of the original rear sight. Not a good thing in my book. I did not want to permanently alter this rifle, so the scope mount I have was the next best thing.
2. I am not willing to break up this package as it would leave me holding parts and/or ammo to a rifle I wouldn't own.
3. I am not 'hurting' to sell this rifle. I have no problems keeping this rifle in my arsenal so please save the lowball offers for someone who is 'hurting'. I've priced this package well below it's value hoping that I might help someone else out in exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.
4. As for trades, I am only in the market for a Ruger 10/22 or a nice 1911. I do have cash to offset any difference there may be in price of a trade.
Additional and higher quality pics can be provided upon request.
Q&A:
Q. The raised scope mount is 8" long, I assume, but not too high? It doesn't necessitate an unnatural shooting stance, does it?
A. 8" long centered on the rear sight. Furthest point of the rail to the rear sits about half way between the rear sight and the breech of the rifle. When installed, the rail sits roughly 1/2" above the rear sight. This allows the iron sights to be used within 100m. The rail prevents the rear sight from raising up to allow further distances than 100m. Basically, the sight has to remain at it's lowest point - the 0 to 100m position. Now consider that a scope will probably sit another 1/2" to 1" above the rail... it did not feel awkward to me, but if it is, a cheek rest could be installed to make it more comfortable. It didn't affect my shooting stance at all. The only awkward feeling was using the iron sights, but only because it took a bit to get used to looking through the scope mount when I'm used to seeing a wide open view when using iron sights. It didn't effect the use, but just a "new" feeling. I quickly adjusted and found that I no longer noticed the mount when using the iron sights. I trained with both sights and scope and switched between both frequently.
Q. The scope mount doesn't necessitate the angled bolt handle, I'm guessing, since it's not the type that requires drilling and tapping. Or does the scope mount you include require the angled bolt handle?
A. No, the mount does not require the angled bolt handle. The angled bolt handle was needed because of the scope I was using. It didn't have the greatest eye relief, so I had the scope as far back as possible on the mount. This meant the scope was directly over the breach. A straight bolt handle would hit the scope.
Q. Where does the shot land relative to the point of aim at 100 or 200 yds.?
A. This is kind of a loaded question...
The better the ammo, the better the grouping. The better the shooter, the better the grouping... blah, blah, blah. At 100y she was grouping within 1" to 1.5". Again, this was dependent largely on the ammo, but it is what it is.Q. How is the gun mechanically? Bore condition? Bolt and firing components? Does it include the bayonet (not a big deal)?
A. The rifle is clean. Almost no trace of cosmoline anywhere. The bore is in great condition with good rifling. Bolt is solid and the firing pin is in excellent condition. Unfortunately, I do not have a bayonet.
Thanks for looking.
