Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?From the BATFE:
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/how-to/become-an-ffl.html You will need to check with your local city or county government concerning business licenses and such. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke
Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?Whom exactly do I call? I called the county clerk she was dingy said she didnt know call Richmond .Do i need a business license or fed tax id ,Please tell me something
Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?Your County may not require any special zoning for businesses, the State has a how to start a business site, I would try looking through that information.

Get name ok back from state, 4 weeks, apply for Fed tax id, and state tax id. Fill out FFL license, get pics send in check. set up a business checking account, get a business license from you county and town if required. Make sure you meet zoning issues before starting anything, may have to apply for zoning and it could take 3-6 months, if then. ATF comes out, prove to them you are going to operate as a for profit business, they let you know within a couple months. I started in September, up and running by the end of December, with no hickups. Hickups delay that time frame also. I may have left out a step or two, it has been awhile, but the above websites should help out. Good luck, Doug I am an NRA Certified Instructor as well as an NRA Recruiter

Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?I apologize for my ignorance on gun laws. What needs to be done if I just wish to sell one of my rifles? Do I need to do anything special other than check the buyer's license and ask if they can legally own a gun?
I don't intend to continue to sell, I would just like to sell my PSL and maybe replace if with a decent shotgun and pistol.
Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?Private sales are legal in Virginia, provided that you are selling to another Virginia resident. Here's a nifty form that you both can use to track your transaction.

Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?
A buyer in VA needs no license to buy a gun, only pass the BC and present the appropriate ID -- unless its a private sale and then you may proceed with no BC, "license," ID or BOS...it does behoove you though to ask for ID and if they can legally posses a firearm in VA though. They could be a bloomberg plant... No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?There are no restrictions on private sales in Virginia. No background checks, no license checks, no bill of sale, no registration. You just need to have no suspicion that the person is not legally barred from possessing a weapon.
Ok, I guess that last one is technically a restriction. But, it's the only one. Engage your brain!
Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?Thanks for all the feedback, this was very helpful!

Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?I transfered my gun through TBL Arms so that if my friend buying it from me ever got it stolen or what ever, I didn't have to answer any questions from ATF or Law Enforcement. It was worth the $25 transfer fee for a bit of peace of mind.
Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?Do not sell to this man, no matter how much cash he waves at you:

Not really, since it would break down one of two ways: one, your buddy is the last lawful owner and reports it lost/stolen/whatever. Unless he does this in Washington DC or New Jersey, you will not be contacted. In the alternative, if he disposes of it to someone else and it's eventually traced, the trace starts at the manufacturer, goes to the distributor, to the dealer who sold it out of the trade and into the public stream of commerce. If you're the first buyer, you get contacted. If you bought it off someone else, then they get contacted. Traces usually end with the first lawful non-FFL buyer of a firearm.
Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?And that's the basis of the anti-gunners' efforts at "closing the gun show loophole", even though there is no such "loophole". Of course, what they won't tell you is that this is also the beginning of their confiscation efforts....

Re: What is required to sell firearms from home ?I would use that bill of sale that oakridgestars posted. It only takes a few minutes and could save you a lot of grief down the road. If the buyer didn't want to show an I.D. I wouldn't sell. That's just my opinion.
