Rimfire pistols and rifles discussion

I hate the politicians and lawyers who screwup perfectly good firearms. More and more I'm leaning towards just not buying them period, but until then I have to fix them. This is a Load Chamber Indicator (LCI) filler. It does not function, it simply fills the "stupid cut" nonsense. I'm sure doing this to your firearm makes it an illegal assault weapon in 11 states... You can find out about it here: http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/showth ... 19&page=36Here is the original cheap plastic LCI. Besides being a product people who will never own a firearm, it has been known to cause jamming problems on an otherwise fine firearm. Here is what the kit contains. I ordered the regular stainless. The instructions are on the obverse of the paper shown, but I wanted the contrast for the photo. Just simple text. You get the LCI filler, a set screw, an Allen key, and sandpaper (minor fitting may be required, but mine didn't require any). Expensive for what it is, but it is well executed and worth every penny IMHO. When you take the gun apart you are left with needed to remove this pin (black dot in the picture). It is metallic and I used a magnet, plus working the LCI to pull it out enough until I could grab it with pliers. See my Lego train magnet? Any suitably strong magnet will work; alternatively you could probably drill it out, but a magnet runs much less risk of damaging the firearm. I couldn't give one hoot about Ruger's LCI pin. Once you have the old LIC out you just put the new filler in which it threaded for the included set screw. Simple. Reassemble and you get this: I'm so happy having gotten rid of that cheap, plastic junk. In case you hadn't noticed, I hate the LCI on the MkIIIs. Next up, trigger disconnect. In case anyone is listening, I refuse to buy a SD gun with your silly internal locking mechanisms. Put them in there and you loose my money.

I did the disconnect mod using the washer method (1 5mm and 2 #10, all stainless). Worked great on my MkIII 22/45. Let me know if you need info on that.

Yes, it was from Bruce. I was going to solve the disconnect with a MkII target bushing. Might as well improve the trigger while I'm at it.

The washers are actually a temporary fix for me. I have a Volquartsen MkII trigger accurizing kit and bushing on the way... VQ claims 2.5 lb trigger pull and adjustable pre/over travel.

Post how it goes. I was leaning towards that kit, but I'd be interested in how yours turns out.

They went what, 5 decades without one, but CA politicians decided they knew better. It causes reliability problems.

Also I personally wouldn't trust it. It's to easy to mistake that, instead check the chamber harder to make a mistake that way.

+1 There is no replacing the safety between your shoulders.

That's also why I will not purchase a new S&W revolver, either...or any of their other new guns.

You have to watch those travel screws. They ... travel. I had 'em put into three of my Rugers, all three had to go back to the 'smith repeatedly because the pre- and over-travel screws kept backing out (or, I think, backing in, in the case of the pre-travel ones). The result is that you keep pressing the trigger and nothing happens. Extremely frustrating.

Center punch, where the threads meet the frame. Not real heavy just enough to lock it in place. Bill

meak99 wrote:Having issues with the VQ kit. The MkII bushing was too long to even fit in the gun -by about 1/16". Had to shorten it on a grinder. Then, the flange on the bushing was so big it held the sear off the hammer and the hammer would never set on the sear. Put the stock bushing back in with my washers from the mag disconnect mod, then found that the VQ sear was causing trigger reset issues when the trigger was not released until the hammer was set on the sear. Put the stock sear back in, and it's working okay. Starting to think I should have left it the way it was and saved $100.
Contacted VQ with description of the issues, waiting on reply.
Man I'd expect more from VQ. Let us know how it goes. [ Post made via Mobile Device ]

That's unfortunate. It is possible an unfinished part made its way into the finished bin or a machine was out of calibration when they made that one. I'm sure they will fix it. Let us know how it goes.
