I've heard good and bad about him. The bad mostly from people who haven't actually bought anything from him.

I've never dealt with him, and This are probably nice rifles, but are they twice as nice to match twice the price?
Never initiate force against another. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.KYFHO

Well the pictures are pretty! Although, I do have to question the "expertise" of a German Militaria guy that labels an Iron Cross as a "Blue Max."

Well, maybe one day we'll find out.

Well, FWIW, ads for these things were in every NRA rag (I forget the name of the magazine, now - it was whatever one you got free for joining/renewing - Rifleman, I think it's called) that I've ever received. Big, whole page, color ad. If they were crap, of if the dealer was shady, I'd have a hard time the NRA would want the association.

But, it's certainly a decent price, and from what I've heard, the Mauser's are nice, reliable, reasonably accurate bolt-actions. Just expect function over frills for the $299 price, I'd think.

The problem is what he is representing them is not exactly what they are.. WWII mausers, they are all post-war.

You can get a functional shooter mauser for $200, or there abouts from the surplus dealers.

You have to clean the grease out, but you wanted to learn how they work and inspect all the parts anyway.... right?

But mauser.com will sell you a reasonable quality rifle and as long as you aren't looking at it as a collectors piece then all is well.

Magazine publishers don't really care who's advertising, as long as they pay their bill. They don't have any integrity, after all - "gun writer" is just a synonym for whore now, and publishers are just pimps.

As far as Mitchell's Mausers go, they seem to be perfectly fine guns as long as one wants a refinished Yugoslavian rifle with some fake Nazi stamps on it.

I've seen Turkish examples for $110. And the dealer had plenty of 'em. Not "collector" quality by any means, but they sure did look like functional shooters.

BTW, Mitchell's Mausers ads were also in "America's 1st Freedom". That's one of the other NRA magazines.

Had a conversation just the other day with a builder/smith. Said he's had problems with Mitchell on customer service. Very unhappy. Said he won't deal with them any more.
Lord, please protect us today from having to use deadly force.

That's unfortunate. Fortunately, for those wanting a good, inexpensive milsurp rifle, Dark Sun just got another shipment of Mosin-Nagants in stock for $95 (round receiver) and $115 (hex receiver). I took a look at these at a show recently, and normally they've got a decent selection, but all of these "new" ones he brought to the show looked really good. My wallet didn't hurt too badly afterwards, either. :-)
