Which would you get first?

Which would you get first?

Postby RaiderRey » Wed, 08 Sep 2010 10:56:46

I'm looking into an upgrade for my S&W M&P15. :coffee:

Looking for upgrades are always fun, picking which upgrade to do first can be a pain. I'm trying to decide which to upgrade first - the stock or the trigger?

I do plan on doing both but just curios on what people would do first.

rifle stock would range from 100-200.

stage 2 trigger will be 200-250.

I'm leaning more on changing the stock first.

What say you forum ?

Personally I would get the items that make it more comfortable to shoot.. IE: Stock .Forearms,.hand grip .. Once its comfy. all the other stuff just seems so much better, Not a big fan of the light pull triggers but scopes and other optics are cool as hell these days...Lots of selections,, SLings are always good and can make toting one a bit better depending on the type..

It depends on what the changes actually are. In general, I would vote for the trigger. Even a basic mil-spec stock is more than sufficient for a tactical carbine. Not idea for a precision gun though. I prefer single stage triggers for tactical carbines and two stages for precision work.

What stock do you have and what do you plan on upgrading too?

What trigger (assume mil-spec stock) and what are you upgrading too?

If the trigger you have feels pretty good, I would do the buttstock first. If the trigger feels rough or heavy I would do it first. For a trigger I recommend the triggers from Geissele. Their website isn't up and running the best, but they do list who sells them and you can visit their vendor's sites:
http://www.geissele.com/
As for stocks I recommend the LMT SOPMOD:
http://www.lmtstore.com/buttstocks/sopmod-buttstock-182.html
or the Vltor EMod:
http://www.vltor.com/EMOD-New.html
You haven't mentioned the pistol grip grip or rail covers yet, some of the more popular ones are made by Tango Down:
http://tangodown.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=31
http://tangodown.com/shop/index.php?cPath=25
Of course it is in the last place you looked, your not going to keep looking for something after you've found it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am looking into getting the stage 2 trigger by Geissele. As for the stock, I was looking into Vltor Emod or Magpul UBR.

I was just trying to figure out which to get first because I couldn't afford getting both at the same time. I think I am going to upgrade the stock first. For some reason the current stock on my S&P M&Px doesn't feel right.

Thanks again and happy shooting !

The UBR is a great stock. I like Magpul stuff. Not everything they make, but most of it. I would check out a UBR in person first. I think they are too heavy (same for the Vltor) for a tactical carbine. If you have a precision AR, buy all means get the UBR or similar. If it is a precision AR I think a trigger job would help your groups much better than a new stock would. Same goes for a tactical carbine. I put the Wilson Combat single stage in my DDM4V3 and love it. Perfect trigger for a tactical carbine, but I prefer a 2 stage for precision work. To each his own.

I'm running Magpul stocks on my two carbines, an MOE and a CTR. I got lucky and paid the same for both stocks. The MOE ($60ish) is a better value than the CTR ($95ish) and it's light, too. My 20" AR is running an A2 stock, works well with the caliber (6.8 SPC).
