Ruger LCP laser

Anyone have any experience with either the Crimson Trace or LaserLyte? Considering getting one of the two. Just wanted to see if anyone has some input on them. Thanks.

I've only played with one in store and they seem nice and bright but I wouldn't rely on them because like all things they can fail. So know how to shoot irons. I've always thought that if they were close enough for me to pick up the laser quickly then I probably wouldn't need it and if they were so far that I couldn't point shoot then I really doubt I could pick up the laser and would have to resort to iron sights.

I have the LaserLyte for the LCP, model CK-AMF. It's a nice little unit that is fairly inexpensive (about $100) and attaches to the right side of the frame. You pop out the factory pins and replace them with the pins supplied by Laserlyte. You then just screw the laser into the new pins and adjust for height and windage. Quick and easy.

The power button is on the side easily accessible by your right index finger. (Well, I'm a righty. I'm not sure if it's ambidextrous. Never had a reason to check.) I like that method better than some of the others that are activated at the grip.

At one point I lost one of the tiny screws for the battery cover. I emailed Laserlyte and then sent me out a new set quickly and free of charge.

I agree with Jake about not becoming dependent on the laser. In a SHTF situation you problably won't have the time or presence of mind to use it. At the range I mostly use the iron sights and only try the laser occasionally. I really just got it so I could play around with it and the fact that the LaserLyte was half the price of the CT and some others, it was a good buy. I recommend it.

Thanks for the replies. I just got the gun and have a Galco IWB on order. Im thinking that the Crimson Trace wont fit in the holster but maybe the LaserLyte will?

The LaserLyte is very thin, barely adds anything to the width of the frame. I use an Uncle Mike's #1 pocket holster and the LCP fits fine with the laser.

Here's the new holster. The front view picture was taken unloaded and the camera was in front of the gun.. not my face. It looks like there is plenty of room for either laser.

I got the Crimson Trace. I love it, but it doesn't fit in the holster.

Can I ask how much you paid for it? Just curious for my own price point purposes.

I also have an LCP with a Crimson Trace. DeSantis makes a pocket holster, the Super Fly, that I use when I carry the LCP. It has a flap that helps obscure the outline of the gun and overall it resembles a very un-noticeable nylon wallet. The Super Fly holster comes in two forms; as Super Fly for LCP, or Super Fly for LCP w/CT. I do not consider them interchangeable, however. I am happy with my DeSantis and I really haven't shopped much for LCP holsters but I seem to notice that several holsters are available for the LCP w/ or w/o the CT cut.

As far as a laser, in general. I find they slow me down if I can actually use the sights, and I think they are only Center-of-Mass accurate. For me, the extra time it takes my OCD brain to check to see if the laser is co-witnessing with the sights is to blame for the slow-down. However, the LCP sights are not that great, and a laser is super if you cannot use the sights (e.g., the sights cannot be seen or you have to shoot from off-axis, off angle, or retention). ymmv.

Fortunately I got it as a gift, but I THINK it was around $180 but I cant rememeber. Looking back at your posts to this at the beginning, it may have been a bit more. I rememeber getting a glance at the receipt thinking.. Someone somwhere told me about this cheaper, but I couldn't rememeber where... I guess it was you, Ha. I'll check and let you know on the price.

Rick
Appears you are already well below Ruger's price (Shop Ruger > Pistol Accessories); and with free shipping, lower than MidwayUSA.
