How long a wait for my VA nonres CHP

Postby Geezer » Fri, 20 Jan 2012 19:13:11

Just mailed in my application for non-resident CHP. Anyone have an idea of how long the process should take?

I dont see a time frame in the non-resident section of the statute so based on the resident section they have 45 days from the tine they receive the app packet.

Got a letter from VSP on on Feb 4th stating that they received my money order and permit application on Jan 31, 2012. They indicated that processing time is 8-10 weeks from the date of this receipt.

How does that compare to the time it took you to get your Mass. permit?

Actually I live in a small rural town in the Berkshires with a very nice one man PD (the Chief). It took about 7 days. In fact a recent survey showed in this town of less than 2000 residents, about 50% of residences had at least one gun in the home. Some towns here in Mass. are not that gun friendly though. LTC's (= your CHP) are granted here at the discretion of the local police chief who may give you a restricted license (only for target practice/no carry), or a carry permit for "all lawful purposes", or may deny your application altogether if he DEEMS you "unsuitable". Sucks doesn't it?

Other Mass. specific laws include a first time DUI carries a maximum sentence of 2 1/2 years which makes you a federally prohibited person for the rest of your life.

BTW by this time next year I will be a resident of Virginia!!!
