+1 to this. That's one of the first things I try to do with a new gun.
Also, resign yourself to the fact that you're going to end up with holsters you never use. I literally have a bucket of holsters in the closet - ones I purchased, ones that came with guns I purchased, etc - all that I can't really use.
Once you have an idea of what you are looking for, then start trolling places like eBay, GunBroker, etc, for similar ones. I found my primary holster on eBay - $0.99 plus shipping. Turned out it was a perfect fit for more than one of my guns, too. And even if it hadn't worked out, the $$ risk was pretty small.
