Recently, the City of Dallas , Texas , passed an ordinance stating that if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement and is not able to provide proof of insurance, the car is towed.
To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show proof of insurance to have the car released. This has made it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.
Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed, the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full after only nine days. Most of the impounded cars were driven by illegals.
Not only must they provide proof of insurance to have their car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow, a $350 fine, and $20 for every day their car is kept in the lot.
Dallas' solution gets uninsured drivers off the road WITHOUT making them show proof of nationality.
Wonder how the ACLU or the Justice Department will get around this one.
Go Dallas!!!!!!

We did that in Atlantic City years ago. I don't know about the fines but I do know that once a year we auctioned off the vehicles that were there for over a year and the money went to the City General Fund. Bill

Alas, that is not the casein Virginia.
Here, they can pay a $500 uninsured motorist fee and LEGALLY GO BAREFOOT ON INSURANCE! In addition to that, they can also get on the road legally by buying just $25,000 worth of coverage. Of course, all of us that buy insurance must carry uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage to pay when they tear something and/or somebody up with their uninsured vehicles. The cost of all that gets factored into the premiums us those of us who DO buy insurance.
About 10 years back, a drunk driver came down the wrong side of a limited access highway and hit my wife, who was driving my brand-new Tahoe head on. He totaled a $40,000 vehicle and my wife has injuries that still cause her trouble. His insurance was the statutory minimum $25,000. My coverage paid for the difference. The guy had double the legal blood alcohol limit.
I contacted my representative in the legislature about at least denying uninsured/minimal insurance coverage to people convicted of DUI. He flat-out told me he had no intention of doing so because it would "work a hardship on those poor people". Wouldn't THAT be a shame?

I don't think it's a good idea to put that online. WHO KNOWS who's checking? I love big-caliber and longe-range rifles and 1911 pistols, and I've got a few.

Sorry to hear about your case. I'm not a fan of the nanny state setting arbitrary limits on what people can and can not do, but I'm a big fan of there being real consequences for when you do actually cause harm. IMHO, the nanny state is a poor risk management strategy...besides being contrary to the concept of liberty.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I don't want the state to rescue me from the consequences of some drunk's irresponsible actions. (By the way, I forgot to mention he'd been convicted before for DUI). I just want the b@stard to have to carry a reasonable amount of insurance in view of the risk he creates.

there are quite a few imaginative ways around the system. I have seen many people beat the system.
growing up, one of my friends bought $100 junkers to drive, he would go to junkyard, pick up some dead tags, & then look for a fresh wrecked car & remove the stickers from tags, if he took tags they would be listed as stolen, but the stickers would get him by & dead tags wouldnt be a problem, he got county stickers as well as inspection stickers the same way, he never insured nor titled any most of his life.
he abandoned the vehicle & would start over if was in a wreck, he just "ran or walked" away.
yes he was caught a couple times, but he would claim he had just bought it, yesterday, & he had title in glove box, & had not been to DMV yet to ttile & get tags, & the tags on it belonged to the seller & seller let him use their tags to drive it home, but was supposed to return the tags asap, & believe it or not, no tickets ever. he would then sell the car & pick up something else. he did that for close to 20 years, & he is deceased now due to diabetes.
there are ways around the system now to not have insurance & to not pay the DMV fees but I wont discuss because of issues this being public, & to not get a loophole closed that still exists. I have helped a few friends use it sucessfully when they were caught without insurance, & so they wouldnt not have to get SR22. most people that get caught without insurance just pay the DMV fee of $500 & then go on SR22 for 3 years.
no law to make anyone here have insurance, just pay a fee. & if person owns nothing, you cant collect anything. you lose just for being legal. but it is ok, most the ilegals run North Carolina plates. & most mexicans period, when I see them have NC plates.
the ilegals that caused a wreck with my wife had NC plates, 3 illegals, 2 went to hospital, the owner of car was legal, but tags were registered to another vehicle, police didnt do anything & they gave phony addresses. & never showed up for court.
another big scam, when you buy a new car, & drop a big downpayment, if car is totaled after a few days or first couple months, guess what you lose big time, alot of depreciation, say you buy a $25,000 car, drop $5,000 as a down payment, some hits you and totals it when car is only 45 days old, guess what, you will be lucky to get it paid off & if you want another car exactly same you just lost $5,000, you will lose because of depreciation, I tell everyone to pay nothing down, pay at the end or after the first year to force insurance to have to pay off the vehicle, otherwise you lose down payment & depreciation out your own pocket.
that has happened to a few friends, & I know a girl that caused a wreck & a teenager had a car for 10 days, with $3,000 paid down & poof, had to buy another car & sued & lost because of depreciation, wanted my friend to re-imburse for the $3,000 they had worked all summer to buy a car with & lost.
