Thoughts on Cain?

So lets here it. Thought's on Herman Cain? I can't seem to find much on him as first as 2A stuff goes.

He's a former Federal Reserve chairman. The system owns him. He's no white knight (no pun intended). His rather muddled statements on guns indicate he's of the same mold as a northeastern Republican, which is to say, no better than neutral and usually mildly hostile.

A 9% National Sales Tax????? That means sales tax in VA would hit 13% (we already have a 1% federal sales tax). If it excludes food & clothes, maybe. But an additional tax is NOT going to help folks. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever.

http://www.hermancain.com/999plan

Phase 1 - 9-9-9
•Current circumstances call for bolder action.
•The Phase 1 Enhanced Plan incorporates the features of Phase One and gets us a step closer to Phase two.
•I call on the Super Committee to pass the Phase 1 Enhanced Plan along with their spending cut package.
•The Phase 1 Enhanced Plan unites Flat Tax supporters with Fair tax supporters.
•Achieves the broadest possible tax base along with the lowest possible rate of 9%.
•It ends the Payroll Tax completely – a permanent holiday!
•Zero capital gains tax
•Ends the Death Tax.
•Eliminates double taxation of dividends
•Business Flat Tax – 9%
â—¦Gross income less all investments, all purchases from other businesses and all dividends paid to shareholders.
â—¦Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for payroll employed in the zone.
•Individual Flat Tax – 9%.
â—¦Gross income less charitable deductions.
â—¦Empowerment Zones will offer additional deductions for those living and/or working in the zone.
•National Sales Tax – 9%.
â—¦This gets the Fair Tax off the sidelines and into the game.

Phase 2 – The Fair Tax
•Amidst a backdrop of the economic boom created by the Phase 1 Enhanced Plan, I will begin the process of educating the American people on the benefits of continuing the next step to the Fair Tax.
•The Fair Tax would ultimately replace individual and corporate income taxes.
•It would make it possible to end the IRS as we know it.
•The Fair Tax makes our exported goods and services the most competitively internationally than any other tax system.

Phase 1 Enhanced Plan – Summary
•Unites all tax payers so we all pay income taxes and no one pays payroll taxes
•Provides the least incentive to evade taxes and the fewest opportunities to do so
•Lifts a $430 billion dead-weight burden on the economy due to compliance, enforcement, collection, etc.
•Is fair, neutral, transparent, and efficient
•Ends nearly all deductions and special interest favors
•Ends all payroll taxes
•Ends the Death Tax
•Features zero tax on capital gains and repatriated profits
•Lowest marginal rates on production
•Allows immediate expensing of business investments
•Eliminates double taxation of dividends
•Increases capital formation. Capital per worker drives productivity and wage growth
•Capital formation will aid capital availability for small businesses
•Features a platform to launch properly structured Empowerment Zones to revitalize our inner cities
•We all know the Fed has tripled the money supply since 2008. They have been printing money out of thin air to finance the Obama spending machine. While true Fed reform that restores sound money may have to wait for my election, the best thing we can do now is to pursue policies that increase the DEMAND for dollars to help mitigate the risks associated with the increase in the supply.
•Pro-growth economic policies equal a strong dollar policy

Blech on both Cain and Romney. One of these days I will be able to vote in an election and not want to vomit on the way out the door.

I think Cain is our best option at this point. As far as we know, he doesn't have any real "dirt" on him that the liberals can focus their attack. He's very conservative on many issues and he knows how to handle money.

Here's Cain's views on the major issues: http://www.hermancain.com/the-issues

Naturally, he won't be able to do everything he wants to do. But let's say he accomplishes the following in his first term:
- Repeals Obamacare
- Enforces his 999 plan - uniting all tax payers in a fair manner
- Ends the silly "Global Warming" government intervention and allows for expansion on domestic energy

Just accomplishing those issues alone would boost our economy and take our country a giant leap forward in the right direction.

Gun rights aside, I think he looks as good as any of the republican hopefulls right now. I thought his tenure as Regional Fed Chairman was a plus. Constitutes valuable knowledge, experience and insight. My mind's getting opener and opener on Mr. Cain.

It is a little worrisome that Cain said, "let the states decide" on gun control. But within the law as presently constituted, that's not really a bad answer; even if we don't know for sure Cain is aware of all the legal nuances. He's not a lawyer and he's not a politician with legislative experience, after all. But his instinct seems sound. Besides, on Second Amendment issues he worries me a lot less than Romney and Gingrich do; and I like the way he thinks on other issues. Links below:

Cain said, "let the states decide" on concealed carry - not gun control as a whole.

It looks like the GOP field is set for 2012. Now that Palin has declined to enter the race, the GOP can start to pull in the voters from her camp as well as the Christie hopefuls.

As Bachman, Paul, Gingrich and the rest of the "no chance in hell" candidates drop off, we will start to see a true three horse race to the primaries.

In that context, Cain is the only real anti-Obama candidate for 2012.

Isn't realism (reality) a b**ch? Ron Paul or "the no chance in hell" candidate is sadly just that. His ideas are grand and very patriotic to the constitution, however his time has passed. Maybe he could mentor someone who would be a better choice to vote for (I myself hate to puke in any matter). That being said, Cain is the better of all candidates to me. Hell, maybe Cain and Paul could run together for Pres and Vice pres. What a concept huh? Then we would have someone who knows what it takes to make a system work properly and someone who knows about the Constitution and what is was meant to be and mean.

Haha I don't think Paul would ever be happy as a vice president. I posted on Cain's Facebook page asking what he believes the original purpose of the second amendment was and whether he would vote for an AWB. I have yet to receive a response from him(just a few from his supporters). So I await his reply but it hasn't even been a day yet so he may get back to me.

I don't do video, so I'll assume that's some kind of pro-gun statement. Which is nice, I guess, but before he had a media spotlight on him he was not making friendly noises. Even Obama says he's pro-Second Amendment. Politicians are politicians, look at their deeds not their words - and if they have no deeds, like Cain, look at what they said before they got famous.

As for him being part of the Federal Reserve, if you don't understand how our current economic problems have been created and inflamed by the Fed, then I guess it can look like a positive.

Cain's about like Romney, but he's more given to say what his audience wants to hear. In that respect, he makes a good politician. He thinks he has a chance now, so he's going to say whatever he can to ingratiate himself to the party base. He's probably being set up for an ugly fall.

I disagree. Cain is nothing like Romney and is about as far away from being a "politician" running for president as you will get. Herman Cain has expressed his views on different subjects long before he began running for president and just about everything he's ever said was plain common sense. I don't think he's changed his views once he decided to run for president - I think he's just become more outspoken about his views. If he was making "unfriendly noises" or changing his views the moment he announced his decision to run, I'd like to see some examples. Maybe it's because you don't "do video" that you're getting a "muddled message" and not seeing the whole picture on who Cain is.

Haha that's funny. How dare that Mr Cain challenge the Obama on something like whether he is even eligible to be a president. :hysterical:

On the gun control thing. I never received a response to my facebook query and went I sent to make sure I didn't miss a notification I notice my post was gone. I also notice nobody else has posted on his page. I think it may be moderated my someone that just doesn't allow outside comments as I doubt I was the only one to ask question thru his Facebook page.

The more I look at him talk about the second amendment the more I kinda throw him to the "casual supporter" category. He proboly really does support it but I don't think he is truly knowledgeable and strong on it. I don't think that horrible many people are like this and I like him on the general issues.

My other concern: Will he respect the Constitution? I just seem seen him mention it but I haven't really looked into it much so that may change.

Here is an interesting video my Fox asking Cain some questions http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=850159172150
