I am just grateful that both the pilot and weapon system officer are ok and back in friendly hands. Just sad that we are down another 30 million from the loss of the F-15.
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in LibyaHave the French surrendered yet?

I doubt that they will give up that easy this time. They are very dependent on Libyan oil. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke

Yea, I heard the French have a new tank that they want to try out too when they go after the oil fields. The tank is really speedy with five gears - 4 reverse and 1 forward. The forward gear is in case they are attacked from the rear. ![]() Competition is one of the great levelers of ego.
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in Libya
Has anyone heard which F-15 model it was from a reliable source? $30M is an old number (1998) for an older variant. https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/F-15 The newer variants such as the SE are more like $100M. The recent variants we have sold to partners with the upgrades our Es likely have too also total more like $100M. It seems reasonable to assume that even our older Es have some of those upgrades and cost much more than $30M.
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in LibyaAccording to reports and the fact that it had a 2 man crew, it is pretty safe to believe it was an F-15E Strike Eagle.
Of course it is in the last place you looked, your not going to keep looking for something after you've found it.
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in LibyaNo boots on the ground, you say?. We'll see.

Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in LibyaHow many troops are other countries sending into this little cluster f***?? If I remember there were others in the UN that called for this action. Aren't we supposed to be having serious money issues here? Oh yeah ,I forgot, the annointed one and his court of fools doesn't care. Carte Blanche for the dirt bag nations and the UN while screwing the folks here at home. 2012 is coming and hurry,,Please.

Ya, that's what it seems. Even still, $30M is what a new one cost in 1998 and every couple of years we upgrade the electronics in those so I wouldn't be surprised to see that number double.

When asked what his new strategy will be to support the UN in its goals, Obama replied that he would be inviting Qaddafi for lunch and then proceed to hit the controversial leader in the arm repeatedly while asking, "Which hurts worse? A? or B?" "Those who are willing to sacrifice their basic liberties to assure their security deserve neither."

Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in LibyaWill this be forever known as the "Three Day War"?.
I have a better name for it... Operation Nine Months In The Senate Didn't Prepare Me For This ![]() “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in Libya
They'll have to update it.. "to the shores of Tripoli (again), we fight our country's battles" doesn't sound quite right...... So rattle my bones all over the stones, I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns. Oh, see how words as old as sin, fit me like a glove.
I'm here and here I'll stay.
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in Libya
No argument on that logic. They are the most versatile bird in the USAF inventory though, capable of the attack mission and air superiority if necessary. I wonder how many of them you could buy for the cost of one F22 or F35, it would take more crewmembers, but 20 Strike Eagles versus 4 Raptors wouldn't be a very fair fight in my eyes. ![]() Of course it is in the last place you looked, your not going to keep looking for something after you've found it.
Re: U.N. Security Council Authorizes No-Fly Zone in Libya
Your right, if you believe the war games and simulations the F-15s would get their butts handed to them before they even knew there was an enemy out there. One of the first exercises saw the F-22 put up 144:0 ratio against the best of the rest. A later exercise (can't find a link right now) where F-15s were outfitted with ASEA radars the kill ratio dropped to something like 20-30:1. I don't recall if those were Es or SE prototypes.
