How pathetic we've become

How pathetic we've become

Postby GS78 » Wed, 25 Nov 2009 18:57:40

Three SEAL TEAM members from SEAL team 10 are being brought before a military court for "abusing" a terrorist , who by the way was responsible for an ambush that killed four Blackwater personnel. Their crime?... punching the raghead in the stomach. I just can't stand it much longer.

the three AMERICAN HEROS are to go on trial in dec......disgusting.

What they should have done was shot him and claimed he was trying to escape.

The Seals requested a court martial instead of taking an article 15 according to Fox news. Since they just bloodied his lip he should feel lucky. Also the Brtits found a manual on the battlefield in Iraq back in 2000, a guide for terrorists who get caught. One of the things in the manual is to claim abuse to make US soldiers look bad. A former JAG was on Fox last night and said the evidense they had against the Seals was weak. I think maybe Johnny Jihad just was clumsy and walked into a wall.

I can tell buy your commit that you are younger and don't remember the days of Vietman. I can tell you from personal experiance that we went through the same things then. The military was always looking over it's shoulder at the press and congress waiting to be nailed buy one or both of them. They then as they do now have total dicuss over the military. We would be damn near hung for doing the right thing. I know I was there and in the middle of it. I was damn lucky I came back without a prison record all because
some stupid report had the case of the ass against GI's and congress backed him. So you say the old days are gone? No they are still here and the same people are still here in the press and congress.

well with the exception of Lt.Calley, I dont recall a huge amount of show trials involving "so-called abuses" of prisoners...( I understand there really is no comparison to these two cases, which is my point) I wish I were as "young and stupid" as you implied, but I too know a few things about vietnam. My reference to "the good old days" was when My father was shooting german prisoners, because they were a pain in the ass to drag along with his unit. I should have specified that, I guess.....

I did not imply you were young and stupid! I imply you were not around to know what happened then. That period was not and has not been discussed much. What we went through then is very similar to what we are starting to go through now. Only we never talked about it much. Yes I could have gone to prison for saving 10 Marines and a Col who happened to want to save my butt and the corps. So as I see it, it really isn't much different. Unless you know someone who will talk to you about then you probably don't know a lot about then, because TV sure didn't tell the truth. So not stupid, just don't know that's all.

Never said that was all it was about but that is what got the headlines. I was fortunate enough to miss the draft when I turned 18 and when I volunteered and joined the Navy at 19, we were pulling out and the "campaign" had officially ended. I missed getting the Nam ribbon by a matter of a few months. Thank God I missed Nam and all that went with it. What little I know I got from what little news I saw at the time and what my Vet friends told me which was damned little as they had no desire to relive their personal hell and I wasn't about to push them on it.

War is a dirty thing and you do what you HAVE to and are ordered to do. Sometimes following orders or serving has a horrible price. I do not envy those who paid that price and support them all for serving their country and I do not judge them as I don't know their circumstance. During the last Rolling Thunder, I made my 1st visit to the Wall. I cried my ass of then and am tearing up now thinking of it.

Paladin, please feel free to educate/correct me. I have given you my view and how I came to it. There are many here who are way younger than I and know even less. Again, it seems to me that in THIS case, these brave men are being persecuted for little more than bumps and bruises. As this crud grows, they may wind up like many of the Nam vets who came home only to be treated as murders and villains, no matter What they may or may not have done. It sure seems to be headed that way for this generation though and that greatly saddens me...

Herohog, keep in mind one very inportant thing. The press we have today who are BAISED and stuck up the left's a%$ are the same one's we had back then, only today we have other sources calling them on it. Now keeping that in mind you can't go on what they said back then. There was no one to change them on there stories. We fought 3 fronts over there: charlie, our press and congress. All of them did not like the military (us) We had some good reports (not many) but their stories never got much attention. Then we had some who just wanted to burn us anyway they could. So when they get any story that would make us look bad it got a lot of play. During the later years things did get out of hand sometimes. No it was not right, but their was reasons for it. We had charlie do things as bad and worst than some of the terrorist are doing, but you never heard of this things. They went from mild to I can't even put it on here. We fought a new type war and we were not backed by our congress or a group of people at home. You won't find to many vets talk about (it's hard writting about it right now) But we had to do things at 18 years old no one should have to do and when we come home we get greeted by our country men and women in the worst way. No we have not talked about it much then, now or maybe even tomorrow. Hope this gives you a little insite. remember Dersart Storm and the parades? We don't remember any of that.

As a member of the younger generation who has never served I want to say that there are those of us who fully and completely support those that are serving and have served and we can never know what it was like in those times or these unless we answer the call ourselves. There are things in war that have to be done.

"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat....You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs-Victory in spite of all terrors-Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival." Sir Winston Churchill.

Paliden, I think I just hit a nerve on ya and ya barked at me. That's OK. That is why I responded as I did afterward. God bless you and all of the rest of you way to young and way under-supported; by your own armed forces and Congress and the lazy liberals who condemned you at home. I can not imagine what you and your brothers went through and pray we never treat our men and women in uniform that way ever again. Unfortunately we are well on our way down that road and it was well under way during W's term in office.

At this time, I would encourage no one to enlist. I suspect many that do are doing so as a last resort as the jobs are gone and it's that or crime. A VERY few, I would think, are truly gung-ho patriots who believe in the job that the military has to do to keep us safe. Even fewer are the gung-ho idiots who played way to many video games and will wind up either being a hazard on the field or a crying mass in the corner being a burden on his mates. I hope I am way off on that estimate.

My nephew is an Airborne Ranger in Afghanistan right now. He is a damned good man and I pray form daily and any time he crosses my mind. I also send him and his men care-packages as often as I can as I know how much it means to them. He is a lifer and will do well provided he does his job well and has proper support.

Paliden, we are on the same side here, I am just ignorant and will take all the education you or anyone wishes to supply.

Well, I believe this stupidity is a shade more than pathetic; it's just sad! "Seals" are combat troops, not "Boy Scouts" on a holiday tree sale. War is violent business and troops like Navy SEALs are our defense against those who would destroy us completely. I say: "Show No Mercy". They didn't show us any on "9-11".

Actually, a recent study by the Heritage Foundation took a look at this.

You can read it yourself at Who Serves in the U.S. Military? The Demographics of Enlisted Troops and Officers, but here are some of the study's findings that bust some common misconception and myths:

"The facts do not support the belief that many American soldiers volunteer because society offers them few other opportunities. The average enlisted person or officer could have had lucrative career opportunities in the private sector. Those who argue that American soldiers risk their lives because they have no other opportunities belittle the personal sacrifices of those who serve out of love for their country."

"U.S. military service disproportionately attracts enlisted personnel and officers who do not come from disadvantaged backgrounds."

"Members of the all-volunteer military are significantly more likely to come from high-income neighborhoods than from low-income neighborhoods."

"American soldiers are more educated than their peers. A little more than 1 percent of enlisted personnel lack a high school degree, compared to 21 percent of men 18–24 years old, and 95 percent of officer accessions have at least a bachelor’s degree."

"Minorities are not overrepresented in military service."

It's a good article and well worth reading.

Thanks Speedy, I know we're on the same side and yes you hit a very sore spot with me. I like many others came home and buried my time over there in a deep dark hole never to come out again. Thanks to our president and his group it all started to come out again last year. It kills me to see where our country is going and being thaten there by the same people we dealt with back then. I only pray the people of this country get rid of them for good and NEVER let them back. I feel like I wasted a year of my life because of NBC and congress.
Thanks for being one of the ones who give a crap!!!!! and sorry if I came across to hard!
