How to fix Congress

How to fix Congress

Postby Chasbo00 » Mon, 02 Jan 2012 13:37:09

Proposed Congressional Reform Act of 2012

1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 1/3/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Competition is one of the great levelers of ego.

How to fix Congress?

Tactical nuke from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I agree.

Too small to be sure. Needs to be in the multi-megaton range. With additional strikes on locations known to be frequented by congresscritters, like New York City and Aruba.

Have to generally agree on all points. In addition -
- Greatly reduce their pay below current levels.
- Limit their time in DC for sessions to 6 weeks each quarter.
- Make their allowable expenses per diem only for lodging and meals (how about co-ed dorms) with lowest cost travel available and only to and from formal sessions of Congress.
- Limit the size and cost of their staff.
- Require them to formally gather opinions on upcoming legislation from their constituents.
- Their Soc Sec and FICA taxes should be at the 'self employed' rate.
- Limit Representatives to two consequtive terms in office with a total limit of no more than 4 total terms, and Senators to one term with a limit of 2 total terms in office.
- Require all to undergo and pass a FBI background check.

Make them like the 'little people' they love to tax and regulate!

What wonderful ideas. Sadly, though, how shall we get them implemented?

Nice ideas! The tongue in cheek stuff is pretty funny too.
