The funny thing is they were supposed to come up with 1.2 tril in savings...over 10 years. While we rack up, what 1.3-1.4 trillion in new debt every year?

What difference does any of this make?

Eh, on the bright side I should be able score a sweet giant tv made in Malaysia soon for less fiat currency than usual! USA! USA! USA!

Exactly, it's just political theater. You have to assume extraordinary economic growth to even make it wishful thinking.

What difference does any of this make?

Well, let's see...................

(1) The insane spending will continue until January 2012; digging a deeper hole.
(2) At that time, government will continue it's spending unabated and waste all the money in all the sickening ways it has for the past few decades.
(3) Obama will veto any attempt to fix the problem that doesn't amount to a conversion to socialism.
(4) The spending cuts will kick in. Services on so-called entitlement programs will be slashed while the bureaucrats continue to swill unabated at the government trough. Cuts to the military will be pursued by the Obama administration with great enthusiasm. Again, military capability will be sacraficed to preserve civilian & military bureaucracy. We will become at least impotent on the world stage, if not completely neutered. China will continue to build its military machine with an eye toward displacing the US as the world's superpower and completely excluding us from the Pacific.
(5) Obama will sell the idea to the deprived "entitlement clients" that the republicans are responsible for derailing the gravy train to try to motivate them to go to the polls in 2012. If they go, there's no doubt who they'll vote for.
(6) The so-called "Bush Tax Cuts" will expire. All of us who work for a living will see our taxes go up. As our deficit grows and out credit rating is downgraded again, we will see inflation increase, which will further erode our earnings. Obama's energy -related decions (obstructing/preventing drilling, pipelines, coal mining, etc.) will vastly inflate the domestic cost of energy, further eroding our standard of living. Inflation will finally push up interest rates, insuring an even worse housing market and a lack of business expansion. Those who get hurt most will be the middle class. Those who will feel it the least will be the top 1% that Obama wants to be so hard on. So he can keep them as a whipping boy to incite class warfare.
(7) Our economy will continue to spiral down. Obama and his ilk will urge drastic big-government, central planning, socialist measures to "fix" the problem. Conservatism will be demonized by the government and in the press to the point of criminality. More takeovers of large segments of the economy by government will result in more erosion of efficiency and productivity; making us even less competitive in the world market and even further fueling domestic inflation.
(8) All this time, because the "sequestration" cuts are not sufficient to address the deficit in a meaningful way, the deficit will continue to grow.
(9) At some point, there will be a devaluation of the Dollar (voluntary or involuntary). The Dollar will cease to be the world's reserve currency. That distinction may go to the Chinese Yuan.
(10) Hispanic illegal immigration will continue unabated; tipping the electoral scales toward the socialist government those folks are all accustomed to. Between this, the military impotence and the currency crash, we will become Spain without the castles.

I'm not sure when in that process they come for all your guns; but they will.

Any of that make a difference to any of you?

Got to stop now. Sudden urge to go execute a technicolor yawn.

Also, #7 sounds fun. When "the conservatives" are "criminalized" does that mean I get to whip mugs of hot fair trade organic soy triple foam latte at them thrown from my electric powered Queermobile with hammer and sickle bumper sticker*?

of course you will but in the new state -tepid is the hottest they'll be allowed to serve soy latte by law-the state wouldn't want you to burn yourself

I failed to account for this...there is also a link between really hot beverages and esophageal cancer...so good call. They must be banned.

Tepid won't do it though, and a hackey sack wouldn't do any damage thrown from my top speed of 20mph Queermobile.

As all of us know we liberals only carry lattes and hackey sacks (never wallets as we have no jobs or money or keys as we are all homeless and theres no locks at the commune) I am at a loss for what to whip at conservatives now.

Hey, my Phd in womyns studies (with a minor in African clitoral tattooing) from Berkeley is a prized possession; it took me 17 years and $190,000 to finish my post graduate work!

What was I supposed to do for those 17 years....work? :hysterical:

Hey, uh, btw, I got these student loans, and they tracked me to the commune and are threatening to seize my hackey sack(without it I lose all of my snark)....with interest I owe something to the tune of $710,000, so if you can help me out with some of that evil capitalist crack you call money, I'd be much obliged.

oh, how quaint. In the socialist utopia of the future, all taxes are replaced by mandatory organ harvesting to prop up our immoral socialist healthcare system and paper is to be outlawed for hurting trees feelings anyway.

You think that sounds nutty? Writing me off as a right-wing flake? I'll admit to a little hyperbole in an attempt to keep a casual forum lively, but it ain't as crazy as you might think. Cast your mind back to the McCarthy era. Then it was communists. I don't think it was illegal to be a socialist or communist, but if it wasn't demonized to the point of criminality, how would YOU characterize what happened to all those folks who had their careers and lives ruined because of their ideological/political/economic opinions?

After you've digested that, think about how the mainstream media and the left go into attack mode against anyone who they perceive as influential AND conservative. They go from benign to vicious in the blink of an eye. Think about the Obama campaign’s treatment of Joe the plumber. The open bias that is practiced now (at least by the press) goes beyond anything we saw during the 50s or 60s. Your memory doesn't have to extend beyond the disparity between the reception of and reaction to the TEA party and OWS. And think about all the other stuff that's happened in the last 3 years that you thought (and probably hoped) you'd never live to see.

Study 'bout this for a while, and then laugh again about how nutty it was.

I genuinely cannot see this happening again. "A Right Menace"? "The Conservative Contagion"? Doesn't sound as good as "Red Menace".

Rush Limbaugh's internment camp alone would encompass seven or eight zip codes. The logistics would be a nightmare!

I don't think it was illegal to be a socialist or communist, but if it wasn't demonized to the point of criminality, how would YOU characterize what happened to all those folks who had their careers and lives ruined because of their ideological/political/economic opinions?

Lets also remember McCarthy was right all along. :) Many of the commies were funded by the USSR to subvert things here. But again, they were true subversives, not merely people of a different ideological bent trying to get representation. The German American Bund was also dealt with harshly during the war, and rightly so for the same reason. Socialists were jailed for refusing to fight in either world war; I forget the law but pacifism was criminalized too.

After you've digested that, think about how the mainstream media and the left go into attack mode against anyone who they perceive as influential AND conservative.

The mainstream media does not have a liberal slant.

They go from benign to vicious in the blink of an eye. Think about the Obama campaign’s treatment of Joe the plumber.

What bias? Like how the media totally hushed up say, the Anthony Weiner scandal? or the Spitzer one? Or the various Kennedy shenanigans?
