Re: 1st Amendment protects military funeral protestersThey would then stick to the public sidewalks and roadways to avoid private property, blocking them and maintaining a distance away from the event are better cures

Didn't the Hells Angels do just that? I was speaking more from a legal stand point as far as what the local government could do. A community standing together IS a powerful tool. http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valley ... to_pro.php I guess their services weren't needed, but that would have been a sight to see.
Re: 1st Amendment protects military funeral protesters
I pity the Phelps cult should they try that here and we have any warning.... I don't agree with what they say nor the manner in which they say it and cannot deprive them of their rights. So in turn I will simply exercise MY RIGHT to peaceably to assemble between themselves and the funeral. It is hard enough on the family to deal with their loss(es) without a so-called church targeting their loves ones with venomous rants! It seems that they've cancelled several protests when the word got out to groups that stood up to them. To use one of the current buzzwords they are simply bullies looking for percieved weak targets... Kinda like the same thing that happened to the PETA protesters in the early 80's the night of the MC ball trying to throw red paint on the ladies wearing furs (both real and faux !) Like most 'bullies' then tend to back down a bit when confronted by folks intent on standing their ground. Semper Fi CW SSgt USMC '79-91 Rule #18: It's better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.
