VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun OwnersI realize we dont see much here about the VGOC but I'm a member and they do offer some information occasionally. Here's the latest from the president.
------------------------------------------------------- Bob McDonnell has responded to the competition created by Virginia Gun Owners Coalition supporters between Mr. McDonnell and his opponent Creigh Deeds. Mr. McDonnell is clearly running from his past gun control votes that earned him the nickname "Gun Ban Bob" from some of my friends at Virginia Citizens Defense League. Mr. McDonnell has refused to sign the VGOC Pro-Gun Pledge and give it to VGOC, but he has done the next best thing. He has committed in writing to three of the four VGOC Pro-Gun Pledge issues. Mr. McDonnell is giving VGOC supporters a letter in which he promises to support repeal of the restaurant ban and the one gun-a-month gun rationing scheme. He also promises to support the free market right to sell your gun privately at a gun show. While it would have been even more meaningful to give the promises directly to the gun lobby that created them and has the resources to hold him accountable, rest assured that VGOC will hold him accountable to his written promises. The bad news is that Mr. McDonnell failed to promise to protect the new Stop Dangerous ID law that prevents your Virginia driver's license from being turned into a United Nations computer card chip to track and control your movements and purchases. I will say more on that in a moment. For those of you who are concerned that VGOC might choose to overlook Mr. McDonnell's past anti-gun voting record let me say the following: 1. There is no way that Mr. McDonnell will get higher than a B rating from VGOC because of his past votes against carrying in restaurants and the hunting and fishing amendment, and his past vote for one gun-a-month. 2. There is no way Mr. Deeds, who voted correctly on the issues above, will get higher than a B rating unless he puts a commitment in writing on all 4 issues or better yet gives VGOC a 100% pledge. 3. The past is important, but so is the future. 4. The future is defined by understanding the direction that a politician is pressured to move towards and is willing to put in some form of written communication. Mr. McDonnell knows that he cannot win in a close race in Virginia if he loses the gun vote. He has clearly demonstrated a change of heart. That is why we lobby the politicians. We should not complain when it works. Thanks to your hard work and activism, Mr. McDonnell has begun to respond positively, and we need to build on that success by sending him the email below. I have called Mr. Deeds to inform him of Mr. McDonnell's letter and to find out what he is going to do. I will inform you as soon as I know. Both candidates were given until mid August to decide. But for now we need to continue working. Please do two things. 1. Click www.vgoc.org and click the donation link to make a donation to help VGOC maintain the pressure during the lean months of summer. 2. Cut, copy, paste, and send the email below to Bob McDonnell at melissa.laughner@bobmcdonnell.com with a Cc: to president@vgoc.org ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++CUT+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Mr. McDonnell, I understand from Mike McHugh at VGOC that you have promised in letters to VGOC supporters to do three of the four things that VGOC asked in the Pro-Gun Pledge - - except protecting Virginia's Stop Dangerous ID laws. I compliment you on being willing to support repeal of the restaurant ban and the one gun-a-month gun rationing scheme as well as protecting the right to sell my guns privately at a gun show. Please tell me whether you will or will not veto efforts to repeal the new Virginia laws protecting my driver's license from the so-called Real ID ACT of 2005 that would have turned my Virginia driver's license into a United Nations ID card to track and control my movements and purchases. Re: VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun OwnersI wonder why none of the gun groups have asked about the Castle Doctrine? I would much rather see that if it came down to choices, Real ID is DANGEROUS.Every time you fart they'll know about it. THink of Brave New World or 1984 if you have ever read either one. If you value your privacy ,let these candidates know you strongly oppose it. I'm going to send these letters with a few changes that I feeel need to go in and would encourage others to do the same. It takes only seconds, and more than ever everyone has to speak up. Below is the addition I made to VGOC 's letter asking for an stand on Castle Doctrine.
Additionally I would like to know your position on Castle Doctrine here in the State of VA. We are 1 of 4 states that currently do not have it; It's time Virginia's citizens be able to defend themselves without having to micro analyze a situation to determine if their is a danger or not before be able to act in their own defense, ![]()
Re: VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun OwnersYes, i was going to mention the castle doctrine. I have been hoping once numnuts Kaine leaves office we could have someone to push that through and get it passed

Re: VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun Ownersi do remember it was Mcdonnell as Attorney general who dealt with this, I believe there is no question he knows to support the 2nd amendment:

awesome, im interested in what he says Armed and conservative
Re: VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun Owners
It does appear that he's interested in supporting 2A rights and he has to some degree in the past. He was the third state attorney general to file an amicus brief on Heller with the SCOTUS which gets a big plus from me. The proof is in the pudding though. No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun OwnersHowdy, y'all,
Don't take this the wrong way, guys, but would you be giving McDonnell the benefit of the doubt if he was a Democrat? I can think of another recent candidate who won national office by "running from his past gun control votes" and who knew "that he cannot win in a close race ... if he loses the gun vote." McDonnell is going to have to do a lot better to win my trust, and Deeds is going to have to do a lot worse. Had a bill to "close the gun show loophole" ever got to Kaine's desk, you know he would have signed it. Whether or not Deeds support for such a measure is genuine, he can't sign it if it doesn't get to his desk. And THAT is where OUR focus needs to be. We have to make sure that the General Assembly remains pro-gun, and work to remove anti-gun Democrats AND Republicans. My own state senator, a Republican, is one of those anti-gunners that needs to go. Regards, George
Re: VGOC - Bob McDonnell Responds to Gun OwnersI don't think anyone is giving McDonnell the benefit of the doubt. Right now both he and Deeds are ranked pretty much the same as far as gun rights go, albeit for different reasons. I think the discussion is that McDonnell needs to be pressed harder about gun control and that, indivdually, we need to look at each candidates platform. Deeds seems to be caving on gun control at this point.
Nobody is going to argue that we need to work on removing anti-gun politicians from office. It's a bit harder to coordinate though when it isn't a statewide or national office.
