Protest Easy Guns - I'm Confused

Postby viiiball » Thu, 15 Apr 2010 07:55:20

First off I hope everyone in VA is coming to DC on Monday to support the 2A March. There have been several articles recently about the 2A March along with the Starbucks protests in Blacksburg and Denver this weekend organized by "Protest Easy Guns". I think we should all support criminals not having easy access to guns so I decided to research this PEG group a little more. After doing my research I was confused so I sent them the following email:

On your web site under Who We Are you state (copied directly from the web site):

"We are not against hunters, guns for private protection or collectors of guns. We are for background checks for gun purchases and keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, dangerous individuals, and people not capable of handling a gun responsibly."

Tell me how this statement above jives with your protest of Starbucks when Starbucks has stated their policy on lawful guns as "While we deeply respect the views of all of our customers, Starbucks' long-standing approach to this issue remains unchanged. We comply with local laws and statutes in all the communities we serve."

I am confused. How does pressuring Starbucks into reversing their policy on lawful gun carry help keep guns from CRIMINALS?

Respectfully, Doug XXXXXX

Wonder if I will get a thoughtful (or any) response.

This is from their website,,They IMHO are just another version of "mayors against guns" like Bloombergs little boys club. Just noting what they want makes me wonder if Hillary herself isn't behind them or Holder maybe. This is a group of anti gun zealots in disguise as "resposible in the name of publiuc safety" They'd take your freedoms away in a flash if they could.

What We Want
DID YOU KNOW?
Every Day in the United States --
CRIMINALS, TERRORISTS, AND GANG MEMBERS ARE ALLOWED TO BUY GUNS AT GUN SHOWS WITHOUT ANY BACKGROUND CHECKS

What can Americans do about it?

CLOSE THE GUNSHOW LOOPHOLE so that ALL sellers of guns will have to conduct background checks on whomever they are selling guns to. Tell your legislators to support Senator Lautenberg’s bill (S. 2577) and Rep. Castle’s bill (H.R. 96) so that Congress will CLOSE THE GUNSHOW LOOPHOLE nationwide.

Currently, a gun show loophole allows unlicensed, private dealers to sell guns to people without conducting a background check. There are approximately 5,000 gun shows every year across the United States and 40% of sales at these shows are by unlicensed sellers who are not required to perform background checks. The ATF says that gunshows are the second leading source of crime guns. Although 15 states have taken action to close this loophole, 35 states have not! It is time for ALL states to close it.

TAKE ACTION and MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Type in your zipcode in Congress.org to easily link to your legislators and email/phone them TODAY to tell them to support S. 2577 and H.R. 96.

CRIMINALS WITH HIGH-POWERED ASSAULT WEAPONS ARE A THREAT TO OUR POLICE AND THE REST OF US

What can Americans do about it?
REINSTATE THE ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN AND THE FEDERAL BAN ON HIGH CAPACITY MAGAZINES.

The Assault Weapons Ban was allowed to expire by the President and Congress in 2004. Consequently, these military weapons -- like semiautomatic AK-47s and Uzis -- are again easily available and back on our streets and high-capacity bullet magazines (larger than 10 rounds) are available once again. It was the availability of such magazines that allowed the VA Tech shooter the means to murder so many people so quickly. He used 15-round magazines which became legal when the original Assault Weapons Ban expired in September 2004.

TAKE ACTION and MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Type in your zipcode in Congress.org to easily link to your legislators and email/phone them TODAY to tell them that citizens should NOT be able to purchase military assault weapons and high capacity magazines and you want them banned

GUN TRAFFICKERS ARE PROTECTED BY CONGRESS WHICH KEEPS INFORMATION ON CRIME GUNS AWAY FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT

What can Americans do about it?

Tell Congress to REMOVE THE TIAHRT RESTRICTIONS in the ATF budget which makes crime gun data secret.

For five years restrictions in the ATF budget have kept most information about crime guns from law enforcement. We must remove the "Tiahrt" restrictions to give law enforcement full access to crime gun trace data so that they can solve gun trafficking cases and get crime guns off the streets sooner.

TAKE ACTION and MAKE A DIFFERENCE: Type in your zipcode in Congress.org to easily link to your legislators and email/phone them TODAY to tell them to remove the Tiahrt restrictions

Don't be fooled by their promise that they don't want to infringe on your second amendment rights. Protest Easy Guns is just another pure anti-gun group, just like MAIG, VPC, and Brady. Abby Spangler and her fellow travelers use all the same rhetoric of the other groups, much of it lifted from their peers. They don't like "assault weapons" either, they don't like legal carry about law abiding citizens, etc... etc... Nearly every single issue brought forward by PEG is redux of Brady, VPC, or MAIG talking points.

The good news is that all these organizations now say "we support the second amendment" because the second amendment now has broad public support. Because of that, they no longer say "we want to ban all guns." Instead they say, "we don't want to take away your second amendment rights, we just want to take guns off the streets, out of the hands of children, criminals, terrorists, etc...." But that is all just distraction-oriented handwaving. They still want to ban all guns, they just can't say that any more because it is extremely unpopular.

These groups are just like greedy criminals. They start out wanting just a little bit. They get a little bit and it feels good so they want a little more. Before you know it they want it all...and when they finish with one thing they move on to another...a conquer mentality. Start with a little, gain a foot hold, and then take it all...once one field is spoiled and plundered move on to the next...
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...
