Right-to-Carry Reform Measure to be heard before House Committee!
Please Contact the Members of the House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee

On Tuesday, February 9 at 7:00am the House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee will hold a hearing on House Bill 505, sponsored by Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-15).

House Bill 505 would allow a concealed carry permit holder to carry his or her firearm into a restaurant, provided he or she does not consume any alcohol. This bill is similar to last year's bill that was passed by both the House and Senate Chambers and ultimately vetoed by Governor Tim Kaine (D).

Please contact the members of the Committee and respectfully encourage them to SUPPORT House Bill 505.

It is probably as agood a bill as going to get passed, but

HB106 introduced by Mark L. Cole -
Carrying concealed handguns. Allows a person with a valid concealed handgun permit to carry a concealed handgun in a place of worship with permission of the leader of the religious meeting. The bill also eliminates the restriction against carrying a concealed handgun in a restaurant that serves alcohol.

Is in my opinion a better bill as it totally removes the restrictions for restaurants that sell alcohol.

I dont like that one as is qualifies church carry more restrictive than previously. I can argue "good and sufficient reason" but I cant argue anything if I carry and dont have permission. Why cant they make church like businesses? Its ok unless posted or the pastor asks you to leave. As it is now I dont say anything if I dont see a sign and no one knows the difference.

Regarding no alcohol consumption while carrying concealed in a restaurant that would leave no ambiguity in the law - which it currently is.

Reality Check Time on Restaurant Concealed Carry Law

Are you going to be any "better off" carrying concealed and not drinking in a restaurant than you would be if you were already intoxicated before you got there from drinking somewhere else?

Just wondering.

My feeling: don't drink anything at all when you are carrying concealed. Better stilll, don't drink when you are carrying. Period.

Albert

Hi Albert, its already illegal to carry intoxicated and they arent looking to change that one - thankfully. That law is a little ambiguous and could stand some polishing though.

the thing I dont get is - I can go to my bank (that has no "no guns" sign) and my State Assembly - carrying either way. And there is no sobriety test at the door.

Let the hysterical anti-gun rhetoric begin. The MSM will be gearing up to dump as much flammable liquid as possible on the fire (note the phrase "gun-toting" in this typical article).

Don't miss the comments. They're priceless :hysterical:

Good to see it passed the committee level. Hope this passes. I can already see the no gun signs going up all over NOVA.

You can also get into your vehicle and drive to the bank or the State Assembly without taking a sobriety test, but that doesn;t mean that you didn't break the law in so doing.

I have to agree regarding "Don't drink while you're carrying"

The great thing about being able to remain concealed while inside an ABC establishment is that you don't have to worry about some halfwit anti-gunner giving you a bunch of flack because you're carrying openly, as is currently required by law. I don't mind OC'ing, but it would be nice to have the option rather than being forced by law to OC in an ABC establishment.

I think most anti's would be shocked to know just how many armed citizens they encounter on any given day that are carrying concealed. And we do it safely, responsibly and without incident. Makes you wonder why we need this bill at all.

The answer is obvious Jay. It will be like the wild wild west. Shoot outs at the OK corral as gun toting cowboys paw the women, demand more whiskey, and shoot at the chandelier...

So as long as I'm not drinking, I can still paw the women and shoot at the chandelier?

Excellent!

Not everyone notices it when you open carry. Not surprised if anyone had had waitresses ask you if you "would like a glass of wine with your dinner?"
The best advice I heard so far "treat everyone as if they ARE armed" and "handle every firearm as if it IS loaded"
