day after day, this guy makes my blood boil! he's got to be sent packing in november. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/07 ... ess-alone/Obama to business owners: 'You didn't build that'
President Obama, in a speech to supporters, suggested business owners owe their success to government investment in infrastructure and other projects -- saying “if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.” Obama’s comment Friday during a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va., came just days after he urged Congress to extend tax cuts enacted during the Bush administration only to families earning less than $250,000 annually -- part of his argument that top earners have an obligation to pay more to trim the deficit.
“There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me because they want to give something back,” the president said. “If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen,” he said. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

Kind of condescending but factually correct in the context of our public infrastructure being the field on which all goods and services ultimately have to play on. Unless you hew your own roads to get your goods to your customers I guess. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”
True the government (via DARPA and funding academics) did invent the interwebz, but it was designed to maintain military communications in the event of a nuke attack by the USSR. It wasnt commercialized for almost 30 years.

Kreutz, I firmly believe that infrastructure was built with American money, paid by taxpayers. By the people, for the people. Until China will build their cities ( http://www.policymic.com/articles/8603/ ... -and-idaho) with their money and have sovereign rights on that infrastructure, everything else should be free, because Americans OWNS it, it PAID for it. Govt was only HIRED, like a contractor. Damn, these socialists... they dream to socialism, to stay comfortable on their couches and look at American Idol, and wait for the checks... I did not saw any one to emigrate to China, North Korea or Cuba to live their dream!

Duplicate threads warrent duplicate replies?
Heck, I could even copy and paste my reply from the other thread since the headline itself is incorrect. But then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from Fox News. Maybe they watched a different video....

But who paid for the roads? The taxpayer, which includes businesses. “The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”

No body invented the internet. It's a network you can't invent a network. Government may have played a significant role in creating a systems used in the internet but ultimately the internet was built my private companies. The government didn't run fiber optic to my house Verizon did.

That is correct, but I think you're missing the context that I think (can't know for sure) he was trying to get across. If I open a business today, the tax dollars of those people and businesses of the past will benefit me now in the form of the existing roads which my biz immediately benefits from, so yes, I'd have help from the government taking capital in the form of taxes and spending it on roads, which is a good example since thats Constitutionally OK. I can see how people are reading this as an attack on the free enterprise spirit, but I think the point he was trying to make is government can have a positive effect on a society in terms of helping create businesses. I never took out an SBA loan (I have like no overhead), but I have personally known people who have benefitted greatly from them for example. Of course on the other hand you have examples of even small biz owners utterly crushed by government regs or licensing schemes etc. No body invented the internet. It's a network you can't invent a network. Government may have played a significant role in creating a systems used in the internet but ultimately the internet was built my private companies. It didn't just spontaenously appear, it was invented by simple virtue of well, networking cpu's. Until then no one had networked the primitive 'puters of the time across significant distances beyond local intranets. The internet as we know it was developed, as I said, about 30 years later for commercial use by private entities, which I neglected to mention their role. IIRC its first real commercial use was stock trading in the 80's with consumer home use starting on a widespread scale in the 90's. Web 1.0 lol

I went to that event. There was a counter-rally. A few of us brought the message about Fast and Furious and were out there with Justice For The Terry Family and Fire Holder signs.
