Not a surprise at all. In a way, they're just following the lead of their president, which is to always double down when things don't go your way.
The best part is that one of them is in charge of the internal affairs section. Good luck, whistleblowers.

They didn't screw up. The whole purpose of the project was to make gun ownership in the US look bad to give them an excuse to enforce stricter gun laws. These guys are getting rewarded for a job well done.

No I don't think they made gun owneers look irresponsible to most Americans. They made Washington look like an imbecile at best, and like a crooks in reality. I don't think any reasonable person hears that the federal gov't allowed known criminals to buy guns and take them into Mexico and thinks wow those NRA types really messed up here. Even my very liberal (anti gun) in laws can see that it was the federal gov't that messed up in this case.

The whistleblowers screwed things up. But in the beginning before anything was revealed, a lot of idiots were getting upset as the Dems were screaming about "evidence" that American guns were getting into the wrong hands too easily. The whole thing blew up in their face, but the supervisors did do what they were supposed to do and were rewarded. And, of course, the whistleblowers did what the Dems didn't want them to do and were punished.

Sad--that those who are enforcing the laws in our country are so unbelievably corrupt.
