1. VCDL celebrations coming on July 1
**********************************************

VCDL is going to be celebrating the restaurant ban repeal by coordinating dinners starting at 7 PM on Thursday, July 1, in Richmond, Norfolk, Newport News, Lynchburg, Northern Virginia, Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, and Roanoke restaurants.

VCDL will be inviting select members of the General Assembly to attend the dinners.

As the date draws nearer and the restaurants are booked, I will let everyone know the exact locations for the dinners and start taking RSVPs so we can get a head count.

Plan on celebrating the first day of legal concealed carry in restaurants with VCDL!

VCDL would like to thank Governor McDonnell for signing:

* The restaurant ban repeal bills

* The loaded gun in secured compartments and containers in motor
vehicles and vessels bills

* The CHP renewal through the mail bills

* The elementary school gun-safety bill

I also would like to thank the Governor for his successful modifications to the secured compartments and containers bill and to the elementary school gun safety bill.

Thanks as well to:

* Senator Hanger and Delegate Gilbert for putting in their restaurant ban repeal bills

* Delegate Athey and Senator Vogel for their compartment and container in a motor vehicle and vessel bills

* Senator Smith and Delegate Carrico for their CHP renewal through the mail bills

3. Vote on handguns in containers/compartments bill
**********************************************

Here was the vote on changing the wording in Delegate Athey's HB885 from *locked* container or compartment to *secured* container or compartment. With Lt. Governor Bolling stuck in Italy because of the volcanic ash, this victory was truly razor thin and is yet another reminder of the importance of being non-partisan:

Voting with gun owners (20):

Blevins, Deeds, Edwards, Hanger, Houck, Hurt, Martin, McDougle, McWaters, Norment, Obenshain, Puckett, Reynolds, Ruff, Smith, Stosch, Stuart, Vogel, Wagner, Wampler

Voting against gun owners (19):

Barker, Colgan, Herring, Howell, Locke, Lucas, Marsden, Marsh, McEachin, Miller, J.C., Miller, Y.B., Northam, Petersen, Puller, Quayle, Saslaw, Ticer, Watkins, Whipple

On the Republican side, my Senator, Watkins, let me down yet again with a another bad vote. And for the Democrats, there's Marsden who ran for office as "Mr. Middle of the Road on guns," but who votes like "Dr. No."

We need another big turnout next year to try to stop the Death Star subcommittees from killing pro-gun bills:
