This morning the House Militia, Police and Public Safety full
committee met and passed the following 3 bills unchanged:

SB 334, Senator Hanger's restaurant ban repeal, 16 to 5

Voting with gun owners (if you are a constituent of any of these
Delegates, be sure to thank them):

Sherwood, Griffith, Wright, Carrico, Lingamfelter, Nutter, Cline,
Gilbert, Merricks, Cleaveland, Morefield, Edmunds, Cox, J.A., Shuler,
Lewis, Keam

Voting against gun owners:

Scott, J.M., Barlow, Miller, P.J., Tyler, James

-

SB 408, Senator Vogel, allows non-CHP holders to have a loaded handgun
in a locked container or compartment in a motor vehicle or vessel, 17
to 4

Voting with gun owners:

Sherwood, Griffith, Wright, Carrico, Lingamfelter, Nutter, Cline,
Gilbert, Merricks, Cleaveland, Morefield, Edmunds, Cox, J.A., Barlow,
Shuler, Lewis, Miller, P.J.

Voting against gun owners:

Scott, J.M., Tyler, James, Keam

-

SB 3, Senator Smith, clarifies that a CHP holder can renew his or her
permit through the mail, 20 to 0

----------

The restaurant ban (and the other two bills) now has two final hurdles
before becoming law, barring anything unusual from happening:

1. A vote on the House Floor on the, hopefully, UNCHANGED bill. This
SHOULD pass easily, as a similar bill (HB 505) was passed a couple of
weeks ago.

2. The Governor signing the bill. Based on the Governor's public
position on the restaurant ban repeal, this should not be a problem.
I expect the bill will be on his desk this time next week. How
quickly the bill gets signed, there is no way of knowing - it could be
a few days or a few weeks. Either way it doesn't matter since the
bill won't become effective until July 1 anyhow.
