According to today's WaPo the Washington D.C. homicide rate is on its way to being the lowest in decades. Of course, the Post credits better community relations, technology and changed police tactics. However, folks who think know the truth. I would venture to guess that the largest drop would be in homicids that occured during home robbery/invasion because those have gone down.

The most interesting comment of all, however, was the last paragraph;

Including justified killings and fatal shootings by police, the figure in Prince George’s at one point last week was 85, compared with 76 last year. County officials have said that much of the increase stems from a spike in violence in January.

Oh - and the fact that the People's Republik of Maryland greatly restricts citizen's rights to defend themselves.
