Chinese nationals react to WalMart selling guns

Postby AlanM » Wed, 31 Aug 2011 09:06:25

More international than national but interesting comments on our national view of guns in the hands of the general population.
Actually, there are people in certain states here that would go into cardiac arrest if they saw this at their local WalMart.
OBTW- The Walmart photos could have been taken at the store here in Charlottesville.

How Guns Are Sold In American Wal-Marts, Chinese Reactions

I find the projection shown in of some of the comments to be very much like that seen in many anti-gun people here in the US.

Note the projection in the comments found in this post about Israeli young women in the IDF.

I found this comment deep down in the guns at WalMart discussion.

The nearly complete lack of value for human life that is implied reminds me a lot of what I saw in India over 30 years ago. I suspect that my feeling that human life is cheap in over populated areas is well founded.

In China, the city where i come from. cars kill ALOT more people than guns ever will in Baltimore City(look it up). If you sit in the corner of certain intersections and just watch traffic, you have a pretty good chance of seeing someone getting hit and maybe killed…..
The rule of thumb is that IF you do hit someone, make sure you back up and run them over again for good measure. It’s better to pay a one time flat fee than to pay medical expenses to the “victim” for the rest of their lives. Older folks are much cheaper. How much you have to pay in restitution is based on age. (don’t you just love how the Chinese courts work?)
BTW, the “victims” are almost always at fault. These people need to learn to look both ways before crossing. Most of these “victims” though, are immigrant workers from the North. They don’t seem to understand the concept that a 2 ton car can hurt them. The locals know to be careful.

On that note, people kill people. Guns are just a tool. If i had to kill someone or wanted to commit murder, vehicular manslaughter is a better option than 1st degree murder with a handgun. :)

Don't get me wrong, I've been issued concealed carry permits/licenses from three different states and used to carry every time I left the house. (A habit I need to get back into.)
If I ever have to use my gun(s) to protect myself, my loved ones, or someone else in need, I will feel absolutely no remorse after the fact. Anyone that threatens the well being of another, at that moment, ceases to be a human being in my eyes. I have no compunctions with respect to putting down a mad dog.
I'll step down from my soapbox now.

That's interesting. The thing that struck me the most is that some of the posters felt that they live in a society that is too stressed/violent to allow the common man to have a gun. The whole government overthrow theme runs through there, too.
I feel for those who noted that they could defend themselves from thieves if only they could be armed.

The thing that struck me was the recurring sentiment among Chinese commentors that if guns were available to Chinese people, there would be an escalation of violence and slaughter in the street. Same thing our home-grown anti-gun folks jabber about. Occurs to me it is borne of the same thing in both nations: Absolute ignorance about guns, gun use, and gun issues and fear of what they know so little of. Also intrigued by the Chinese comments on the restraint and orderliness of American society and the inferred lawlessness lurking just beneath the surface in theirs. Says a lot about our people and our system - - all of it good.

I don't think it's a good idea to put that online. WHO KNOWS who's checking? I love big-caliber and longe-range rifles and 1911 pistols, and I've got a few.

That is exactly what I meant by projection.

I don't care what other countries think of us. We are a country born of bloodshed and rebellion. Thus we were made and that fact keeps us protected from our government. It is this strange mutual relationship between two well armed forces that preserves the peace, for what better way is there to preserve peace if not being prepared for war.

I heard that so I went in to check my local Walmart and didn't see a sporting good section? Maybe I just missed it but it wasn't on any of the signs if I did.

To be fair Chinas entire history is one civil war with brief periods of foreign invasion and even briefer periods of peace.
