SSG Tactical in Fredericksburg

If you got a good deal or great service from a shop or range and you want to brag about them, here's the place to do it. Likewise, if you are unhappy about someone's service or feel like you've been ripped off, we want to know that too!

I would say that it not the biggest place, but they have a good selection of handguns and rifles. I think the staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and willing to wait on you in a timely manner. Prices are reasonable. If you get a chance check them out at WWW.SSGtactical.com

Their prices are cheaper than Gander mountain and staff is more expedient! Love that store!

They were very friendly and quick to get back to me when I had a question about whether they had something I wanted in inventory.

OK - I love these guys. I've had a couple of really great experiences with these guys.

Two most recent is that the my wife went through the owner's "Women's Defensive Course" and came out a whole new person when it comes to awareness, shooting ability, and perception about being armed. Excellent work by Curt!

Then yesterday, I went out to seek upgrading a PT709 I recently bought. I didn't want to lose the money I just spent on it weeks ago, but I had that "itch" for a better grip feel. I went to Gander and they low-balled it to 1/3 of what I paid for it weeks ago, stating "Ah - Taurus' loses their value really quick". No way, sorry guys. Went to SSG Tactical and Curt gave me about 90% of what I paid for it and I got a good price on a PT111.

Service was all phenomenal. They worked me through a few critical decisions before I did the purchase and I walked out a happier man.

Thanks MNMGoneShooting,
I talked to the guys at SSG and I am taking the Women's Defensive Course in a week I cannot wait. Looking forward to getting to shoot a variety of guns and figuring out what I like.

you won't regret it. My wife came out of that course a whole different person - with a lot more passion and enjoyment for shooting. She's set up now for an advance defense course with ProShooters LLC in two weeks.

Have fun!!

congrats! Now you gotta sign up for ProShooters advance course! I'm taking that this Saturday with the wife.

Any idea what you'll be looking for as far as your personal weapon?

Yeah Curt mentioned the advanced course, I think I'll sign up for that one once I have my own gun and can practice with that one. I'm leaning toward the Walther PPQ or the Springfield 9. I have to say the revolver was very convincing and I will probably get one soon, but I want one that I have a larger capacity to shoot with at the range. Hope you and your wife have fun. Depending on what ranges he has you use he will probably rebuild it by then... I kinda made the entire thing fall. lol. It had the 2 wood beams on the side and then the range targets in the center. Yeah I guess my bullet hitting the wood beam was one bullet too many and the entire left side collapsed lol! Anyways, let me know how the class goes, I am looking into it for sure!

Too funny. No, this isn't with Curt. I tried him but he was too busy. This training is with ProShooters down in Doswell.

PPQ is a great choice!

Another nod for SSG Tactical. One of the guys there (Doug) is former LE, if I recall correctly. He is top-notch -- answered all my questions and took the time to just chat with me on a variety of subjects. ALL of the people there were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Even if they were slightly overpriced (which they aren't), I'd still go to these guys.

I stopped by there last week and spoke with the guys for a bit and dropped off some VGOF euro decals. I'm glad to see that they're doing well. I invited them to stop by and talk to us sometime, but it sounds like they're pretty busy with their fledgeling business right now.

I'd like to see them post up some "Specials" here. :machinegun:

Congrats on your good times, Jessy!

I had a long conversation with Jim (Proshooter) at the OC dinner earlier in the week. I'm sure you'll enjoy his Defensive Handgun course. Just make sure that you are good and familiar with your sidearm beforehand. Gotta know the manual of arms. :-)

:pistol: Definitely working on that! I have been going to the range 1-2 times a week for 2 hours at a time. Last time did not go as well think I was having an off day. I have been slowly getting better and better and then this past weekend could not hit the broad side of a barn. O well more practice is all it means!

Maybe on Monday I will take a drive out there and see for myself how they are. I have been looking for a good shop to go to. It just might be worth the drive
I invite everyone to come to the range with me. It's as simple as letting me know what day you want to meet up.

I definitely think that it is. Was just there yesterday picking up 2 more mags and looking at holsters. It is so nice when you walk in and they remember who you are and ask about your gun.

SSG Tactical in Fredericksburg

Postby MNMGoneShooting » Sun, 08 Apr 2012 22:15:09

I had another awesome experience with them last week. Brought in my M15 I had just bought used (thanks Rick) to find a scope for it. They took me in the back room with it and showed me all the ins and outs of the gun. Found the parts that I needed from them and got some great insight into my new toy.
