Shoot and Meet at Sgt. Bill's - 5 June 2010

Postby USMCGunner » Sat, 02 Jan 2010 14:46:13

Not sure about etique here, but I was wandering if someone in the area had some "shooting" property in NOVA that would be willing to host a M&G. I hate to invite myself to someone else's place, but I don't have the property to do it, otherwise I would. I'd like to get out and put some faces to the names and have some fun doind what we do best....... :tommygun:

Just an idea.

Well Scott I am not close to you I don't think, but I do have the property to shoot on. I have a pistol range out my back door along with a 100 yard covered bench rest rifle range. If you decide you want to spend a day shooting just let me know.

I'm in the process of building myself a range on my farm in Goochland. I have not even begun clearing yet, but hopefully sometime in the future I'll be able to host a M&G near Richmond, which is really a central point for everyone.

That sounds awesome.

I also have a membership at a local outdoor gun club near Fredericksburg that has 25/50/100/200 yard ranges where we could probably do a get-together sometime in the Spring or Summer 2010. There's also a shotgun range at the club with skeet/trap houses. Maybe we should have a separate shotgun M&G and a Pistol/Rifle M&G. More to follow on this.

Hey, if you all ever get something going, definitely let me know. I'd just like to get together with you and put some names to faces, swap stories, and generally just have a good time doing what we all love to do.

I am thinking about putting together a Shoot & Greet along with maybe a Barbaque at my place sometime this spring or early summer. It would have to be after April 17th. as my Daughter is getting married. Start thinking about some date's to have it on and if we can generate enough intrest then we will have it. Y'all can do shooting, fishing and camping and it don't cost anything.

The last set of photo's show the lake and some of the camping area along with a few of the fish that I have got over the past summer's. I have about 6 to 8 acers of greenfield for camping along with the 30 acer lake for fishing a pistol range and a 100 yard benchrest rifle range.

P.S. No fishing lic. needed as the wife and I own the lake.

That's a really nice spread Bill!

Fish that big, you can count me in.

As an aside, does anybody have any experience with ranges and lead removal, contamination effects? When I get around to building my range, I'd like to make sure I keep the shot in a backstop for the most part (hard to contain shotgun shooting) but I'm wondering how much shooting has to take place before the land is considered contaminated with lead?

I would think quite a bit of shooting (think gunclub, 20 members shooting every day) would have to go on before you reach that point?

Well I can tell you that the Borgata Casino now sit's on the old Atlantic City Police Department weapons range that had been active for the whole county since about 1930 untill around 1998. When I was the Range Master (6 or so year's) I ran requals 4 times a year for our 400 plus people along with several small departments in the county and at least 2 Police Academy's per year. The range never had a contamination problem. We did in fact screen some of the lead from time to time so that we could cast some smokepole slugs and make some lobster pot weight's.
