I am new to the area and looking for information on bowhunting in the va beach area, or something close that I can get to during the week before or after work as a note I am not in the military.
thanks ahead

Re: virginia beach bowhuntersThe closest open to the public land that I'm aware of is Chickohominy WMA near Williamsburg, and the new WMA Bigwoods (I think that's right) out
near Wakefield. Both are about an hour & a half from the beach with no traffic. I've hunted Chick quite a bit, left work early & got in a tree for the last hour or so of daylight, but it's really a bit much, with the price of gas and never knowing what the HRBT will be like. Haven't hunted Bigwoods yet. There is the WMA in Chesapeake, Cavalier, but I think it's a lottery hunt for all of the early season, and most of that property is old clearcut. Very thick & swampy. Not many trees to hang a stand in. That place is better suited for buckshot. I really like Chickohominy, though. You'll have the place mostly to yourself if you take a weekday off work.
