Found a big arrow head in my buck from last Friday!

Postby gunlawyer » Thu, 10 Nov 2011 10:43:56

Arrowed a nice little 8 Ptr last Friday am in Chantilly, VA and while skinning him out, discovered a big ass arrowhead stuck on the inside of one of his rear legs, right near the tarsal gland. It was angled steeply downward in the leg and I am guessing it was the result of a steep treestand shot gone bad. Here is the deer:

Here is where the arrowhead was situated after I pulled it from its hole:

and here is a close up of the broadhead:

Anyone know what kind of broad head this is? It seems to be some manner of El Cheapo model from Dick's or something. It is a BIG honking broadhead!

The arrow must have unscrewed as it was not present and the wound was pretty well healed up. A little ongoing drainage from it which might have been caused by the healing process. Kind of hard to fully heal with that much razor stuck inside eh?

Interestingly, some of the aluminum portions of the broadhead had corroded fairly significantly (see the goobage on the close up picture, that is where the corrosion was) It seems the deer's body was making good progress at dissolving it! Those stainless blades were not going anywhere anytime soon though.

Also, a doe I arrowed a month or so ago up there had a .22 bullet just under her skin which I discovered while skinning her out. It had penetrated just under the skin and stopped dead. I wonder if the deer even got a bruise. I will post some pics of that at some point but don't have them with me at work today. News flash for whomever tried to take that doe: Don't expect a deer to drop when you shoot them high/center of mass with a .22 long rifle!

Someone must hate the deer up there! I wonder what I will find next inside my next deer!

Oh, and the Rut is in full swing. Get your butt out there!
