Night sight paints

Postby Jamie » Sat, 31 Dec 2011 15:13:20

Gentlemen,

Have any of you used any of the various night sight paints to upgrade your handguns? I've got a nice Ruger SR9 with the standard three-dot sights that I'd like to gussy up a bit and improve its utility as well. But I'm cheap, so I'm thinking the paint route is better than fiber optic or actual new Trijicon sights.

Appreciate your help,

Jamie

the paint is 'glow in the dark' after exposure to light.

In my world my firearm is hidden from view until I need it, so the sights never have a chance to get a charge of light.

For firearms that I plan to use at night, there is no substitute for self luminous sights.

Hmm. I appreciate the insight. Mine is stored such that it's exposed to daylight. Don't know if it'd be enough to keep things glowing.

Should be.

But the question that now comes up... you still sleep with the lights on? :hysterical:

Save the money and hassle and put it in your night sight piggy bank. I carry a P01, which I love, after customization's. I couldn't stand the factory sights, just too small IMO. I felt like the dots should be on a pocket pistol not a compact/duty sized pistol ( approximately Glock 19 in size ). I was pretty pumped that they were "glowies" though. Until I realized the charge wore off pretty fast. Like 5 minutes was asking allot, and those were from the factory. Maybe there is a higher quality luminous paint but I think you'd be wasting your money. I picked up some Meprolights off gun broker for around $80..I think they are great sights and made a huge difference during the day as well. If you end up paying $20 between the paints and shipping you've already spent 1/4 the price of some decent night sights. I know allot are more expensive than $80 but there are deals to be had, or maybe start out with a tritium front sight and go from there...Sorry if I'm being too negative, just my opinion..I like to tinker and you may end up having fun with the paints. If they suck they may still be helpful during the day if you were going to use different colors for the front and rear sights..

My Arsenal:
CZ P01-CTC Laser grips, Meprolight Tru Dot night sights, Steve Bedair Custom stainless guide rod, 13#mainspring, extended firing pin, trigger job by Peter Dunn(WA State) former engineer and head gunsmith for Detonics, flush fit PCR mags, flat mainspring plug,...that's all that survived the divorce (and my Grandfather's S&W .357 magnum that lives in a safe)
