NRA is a single issue org - plain and simple. Lots of Dems like guns.
In my opinion the only reason Congress passed the guns in nat'l parks legislation was because Rahm Emanuel and Chuck Schumer recruited moderate (i.e. pro-gun) Dems in the last two election cycles in order for the Dems to pick up extra seats. That backing helped pushed us over the hump. Now I'm pulling for their opponents this year, but my point is - don't underestimate what can be done when you have friends on both sides of the aisle.
As an aside - I'm a conservative and I don't like the Red State blog.

Ummm, ok, that and it was pinned onto the coattails of a completely unrelated piece of legislation which I'm sure greatly helped this one pass: http://usgovinfo.about.com/b/2010/02/19 ... efuges.htmhttp://usgovinfo.about.com/b/2009/05/20 ... -parks.htmI don't think it would have passed nearly as easily, if at all, if it had been a stand-alone piece of legislation.

Actually, I've seen the Board of Directors and all officers posted in America's 1st Freedom more than once, so they do state it. But I do agree, it's time for a leadership change.
I asked someone who was once in politics what the deal was with this DISCLOSE Act backstab and what the NRA leadership could possibly have been thinking. This person responded, "the difference between Charlton Heston and Wayne LaPierre is that Mr. Heston was not 'of Washington'. LaPierre is 'of Washington' and behaves accordingly."
I think I prefer Heston's direction.

The BOD should be posted on the website. But yeah, I'm on board with changing the leadership, unfortunately no one votes for change (Joaquin "Zumbo was right" Jackson was reelected this year! Give me a break).

One of the reasons I'm getting ready to upgrade to endowment membership...only $300. Regular members with over 5 years and life/up can vote in elections. Those of you eligible should have seen ballots last winter. Reason I'm thinking about moving up is to hopefully garner a larger voice. This seems to be one club where modest contributions lets you climb the ladder somewhat and have a little more influence...
