Well, I've got an Apple I-Pad Santy-Clause brought me......................... Now what the HECK am I supposed to do with it?
I've downloaded I-tunes and authorized it; and am currently downloading a software update for it. But I don't really know what to do with it; except that I want to use it as a videophone with my grandaughters (my daughter has one). I have e-mail and internet on my Droid phone (although the internet is pretty dang useless on a screen two-thirds the size of a playing card). I've got a desktop at work (2, in fact), and one at home, and a laptop. I'm not sure exactly what this I-pad contraption is good for. Any input? Re: Well, I've got an Apple I-Pad Santy-Clause brought me.......Hey do you reload? There is an APP for that
Do you shoot? There is a Ballistic APP for that Matter o Fact there is an APP for just about anything that you can think of. My favorite is the Solitaire "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."

I have an HP touchpad and love it(similar to the Ipad). I would recommend browsing thru the games. Also the calendar day planner type apps are handy and there are some bible apps that you can get reading guides for with daily reminders. If you like music download the "pandora" app. It's free internet radio that finds songs similar to whatever song or artist you tell it to search for. I find browsing the internet great on a tablet as well as watching youtube. The only downside is typing is kinda a pain. “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

Re: Well, I've got an Apple I-Pad Santy-Clause brought me.......I appreciate the advice, but I'm an old guy. I don't play games or listen to music except on the radio; for free. My phone syncs with the calendar and contacts in Microsoft Outlook, so using apps like that will be redundant and cumbersome.
It's embarrassing to wake up one day and suddenly be technologically "bakkerds", but I swear I can't figure out what to do with the cussed thing. "The Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference."

A lot of the radio stations have apps you can download to listen to their station over WiFi. So if you have a favorite station or two (or more) take look and see if they have an app. If not there are even more you can go to their website and listen there as well. And the best part is, most of them are free too.
Re: Well, I've got an Apple I-Pad Santy-Clause brought me.......Well, you can access the Virginia Gun Owner's Forum using the Safari web browser. Those guys are the best!.
![]() I'd also recommend a stylus for touching the screen instead of using your finger. If your finger is like mine, it's too old to be calibrated for touch screens If you like to read, there's iBooks and Kindle reader apps. If you plan to be writing a lot, a Bluetooth keyboard is mighty handy. My Kensington keyboard is built into the iPad case. Makes it almost like typing on a laptop computer. Here's a few of the apps I use on a regular basis: RangeLog Gun Log My Verizon (keep an eye on that data usage) FileApp FOX News Drudge Report Google Earth DirecTV iBooks Kindle The Obama Clock **** highly recommend Hulu Plus for movies RadarScope - for you diehard weather watchers The Weather Channel WeatherBug Citrix - access work stuff Not to mention the built-in stuff like iTunes The more you use it, the more stuff you'll find to do. “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” — Edmund Burke

True that. I'm looking for a good mastication app so I don't have to put my teeth in.
Re: Well, I've got an Apple I-Pad Santy-Clause brought me.......Soundhound is pretty good about identifying songs...though it didn't recognize Bird on a Wire by the Neville Brothers OR Johnny Cash.
Star Walk is good for identifying UFOs. Orients to the sky and tells what constellations, stars, planets, and spacecraft you are looking at. The son-in-law says I can Bluetooth it to a soundbar after I get the songs I want on it...and get the soundbar...anybody got Blood on the Saddle by Tex Ritter?
Re: Well, I've got an Apple I-Pad Santy-Clause brought me.......I use mine for radio listening. I also read books on it. I am using it right now to talk with you. Web browsing is my primary use of the I-pad.

Don't feel too bad, Man... I'm a young guy, and I have no use for one of those things, either. When I want to read a book, I go find a book. There is something about the actual turning of a page, the weight of paper, feel of ink, etc. When I need to jot something down, I've got a pen and paper for that. I write a helluva lot faster than I type. When I need the computer, well... I've got a couple of them. I don't do games often, but when I do, I break out a game board, or a deck of cards. I've managed to make it a little more than 3 decades without needing "an app for that". My parents have made it 60 years, my grandparents have gotten close to 90 years (and counting!) without requiring a single app. Now, don't get me wrong; I appreciate the technology, the work that went into it, and all that. Admittedly, it's pretty cool what those gadgets can do. But, I really have no use for ipad, ipod, iphone, and the like. "God Almighty created simplicity. Complexity, inspired by the Great Deceiver, tends to be the province of men. " S. H. M., IV
