weatherby support (lack of)

Postby graybeard321 » Sun, 08 Jul 2012 17:57:40

on Veterans day last year the barrel on my weatherby Orion ruptured. I contacted weatherby and was told to take the shotgun to the closest gander mountain. Gander held the gun till 16 Jan then shipped it for repair somewhere in fla. I made several trips and called Gander starting end of apr. finally on the 22nd of June I am informed Weatherby does not warranty their guns and it would cost me $1100 to have barrel replaced. I only paided $1050 for the gun new. I am now stopping at gunshops and gunshow looking for a new barrrel. Has anyone else had any problems with Weatherby.

Quite true

If it landed at one of their dealers/repair shops that might be the cost to do the job. I'd try re-contacting the main office and see if there is any give on the pricing.

If not I wouldn't be looking for another barrel, I'd be looking for another gun make and be putting weatherby products on my never again list.

Google sez the Orion is a shotgun - what gauge is yours, and where's the rupture? If it's not in the chamber area you could just cut it back behind the rupture, or sell it to someone who will. This is reasonably popular way of making lemonade from lemons, particularly with older shotguns.
