So this on Wednesday a large majority of the internet is going dark and displaying an image like the one below to protest a bill that would allow the US government to sensor the internet base on "copyright violations" call SOPA(and all similar bills). Google is participating, Wikipedia is participating, there are several others as well. Rick I was wondering if you had considered participation as well.

PS: Would love to here everyone's thoughts on SOPA as well.

We will protest SOPA & PIPA making this site unaccessible to members by making this site unaccessible to members?. :dunno:

Yep. That'll show 'em.

The idea is to make people aware of the bill by taking seeing the internet "go dark". The normal websites will be replaced with an image about how we should to fight SOPA, sorta like the one above. But I see where your coming from it was my first thought also until I realized the purpose is to make people aware of the bill.

The whole boycott / protest thing is lost on me. Not that it doesn't have it's purpose, I suppose. I'm just fed up with it all.

My mistake google is just posting a protest not blacking out. Still think its an interesting form of protest and may be something worth considering even though its kinda last minute.

I have *a lot* of websites, and can't see myself going out to all of them and redirecting all pageviews to a SOPA image.

I do like that you brought it up, as it's an interesting issue.

As futile as it may be sometimes the ones to bitch to are the electeds in DC .. Although I will say, I have 0 confidence in our 2 senators and even the good Representatives can only do so much... THis is another power grab by this administration telling Congress,, Screw you I'm doing it anyway,,,The FCC much like the BATFE, EPA and a host of others needs to have its chain yanked back to the point of breaking its damn neck to get the message across that we have a Congress and it makes the rules..

SOPA/PIPA is a congressional move driven by lobbying interests, not an administration move. Just step away from your hate of Obama and no one will get hurt.

wikipedia is blocking access via java script... if you are techno-gifted, and know how to do so, disable JS when trying to view pages and all is well.

It looks like these bills are DOA. Their co-sponsors are backing off and Obama has said he'll spike them.

Now, please understand, if SOPA/PIPA were enacted, this site would be shut down. Remember - a site can be shut down due to reports of violation with NO due process. In other words; guilty until proven innocent.
