Didn't post it for the truth, and the point is that it doesn't matter if it's true or not. I certainly don't want to believe it. The point its that it's out there on the net in a solicitation. That means there are probably enough takers to make it worth someone's time to do it. The point is that just as there are folks out there that believe reality TV fantasies are for real, there are surely some out there who believe the "martial law" scenario; and there are certainly the Black Panthers and other extremist minority groups and extremist "white power" groups who are preaching and hoping for an opportunity to engage in violence. The point is that posters on this forum are saying things that bespeak deep-seated, strongly felt resentment over what they perceive as unfair treatment by "the system"; and these are not extremists or wackos - they're pretty much average Americans - and they'll surely defend their lives, families and property if threatened. The point is that the POTUS was making approving statements about and even now refuses to condemn the OWS movement that is preaching the end of capitalism and generating anarchy and vandalism. The point is that it is just one more indication that our government grows increasingly more dysfunctional as the Obama camp attempts to take us further down the road to socialism.

No, tursiops, I don't actually believe it. But my point was that even though I don't expect or want it to happen, it does seem to me that extant circumstances are absolutely more conducive to something like it happening than at any time in my lifetime. In other words, I find it very disturbing that such a thing seems less improbable than it has been. Dangerous ground.

Fair enough.
But I would have been more appreciative of the posting if it had been accompanied by your comment that it is mostly likely not true. YOu obviously think clearly and are credible on this board.

I'm not comfortable with just passing on hoaxes and rumors...that just feeds the fire. This board is full of people who will defend their families...I would expect that attitude to extend to defending the truth, and trying very hard to think critically and see if some internet statement is actually true or not, and then labeling it as such. There is too much just passing on silly garbage, which without adding the value of critical thinking is just silly garbage and usually very misleading.

There was an old UTC advertisement which went: "If 50,000 people believe in a dumb idea, it is still a dumb idea."
The internet has proved that point....

To be totally honest, tursiops, I find your post so offensive I don't quite know where to start.

FIRST: I very clearly identified the language as to where it originated and acknowledged that it had been previously discounted here on prior threads. Did you miss that?

SECOND: The purpose of my post WAS NOT to maintain your comfort. I won’t even say “sorry” about that. The best I can do is “tough sh!t”.

THIRD: I have enough respect for most of the people who post on this forum to expect them to be able to read plain English, comprehend it, draw their own conclusions, and not expect or tolerate being told in advance what to think about it.

I'm having a difficult time keeping up here (though the Reichstag column was interesting and scary, to say the least)...so, let's just close this topic, and if there is a specific issue that any member feels deserves some action, we can address them separately in their own thread(s).
