Support Starbucks on 14 Feb 2012!

Postby allingeneral » Tue, 24 Jan 2012 21:14:40

Apparently, anti-gun groups are trying to organize a boycott of Starbucks on Valentine's Day. If you're out and about on February 14th, be sure to stop by and buy a coffee!

Starbucks has a very sensible policy regarding firearms - they abide by the laws wherever the store is located. They don't levy their own restrictions - if you are legal, then you're good to go in Starbucks - Open Carry, Concealed Carry...They appreciate our business!

Sounds like a good day to buy a nice Venti Mocha Latte and a few gift cards for the family.

Way to go Starbucks. We need more companies to be like them. Supporting the law. My wife and I enjoy going to Starbucks on a regular basis and we will continue to support them.

I don't normally go to Starbucks but I think I may make a special trip on the 14th.

I think I don't normally go there cause I'm not sure how to order my coffee black.

Just tell them you want a venti triple white chocolate mocha, hot with two "Sugars in the Raw" stirred in and whipped cream.

Wait - tell them you want TWO!

I have to leave my man-card in the truck when I go in to order that :hysterical:

I'm going to be in the Gainesville area the week of the 14th. I just applied for my non-res CHP but doubt I'll have it by then. Nevertheless I will wear appropriate gun owner attire and visit Starbucks that day. Are any of you folks planning a meet & greet at a particular Starbuck in that area? I'd like to participate if so.

I've gotten a couple people to commit to an OC coffee run on V-day this year. I told my boss that I had every intention of taking 10 minutes out of the busiest day of our year to clock out, go out to my car, take off the work shirt, strap on the pistol, and going next door for a coffee.

Of course, everyone in that shopping center knows me, so removing the work shirt is really kinda silly... but, the boss lady is freaked out by guns, so, whatever.

Hahaha... This is me, too. I don't understand coffee shop lingo. I've found, too, that, while the Starbucks crowd has their own coffee-speak, other shops, particularly independent shops, have their own dialect, as well. I typically ask what types of plain coffee they have brewed up for the day, explaining that I want it black.
Once I was asked "Do you want room?"
So my logical reply was "Room for what?"
"Room to add your own stuff," with a glance toward the fixin's bar.
"Oh... Thank you, no."

I'll have to make a trip to support our local Fivebucks on Valentine's Day. Glad they appreciate our business.

The local economic development folks in these Southwest Virginia counties out here have a phrase by which they refer to the lack of "millennial-oriented quality of life amenities" that plagues us out here: They call it the "No-Starbucks issue". So I have not habituated Starbucks (even though I get out of the woods to the big cities fairly regularly) for a variety of reasons having nothing to do with the quality of their coffee OR their firearms policies:

(1) I feel pretty stupid paying $4-$5 for a cup of coffee. And you don't even get a sign.

(2) They have vastly overcomplicated and wussified the simple act of getting a cuppa coffee. I just want strong, rich, black coffee. None of that 20-questions-about-stuff-I-never-heard-of-and-don’t-care-about stuff, please. Don't offer me any of them girly fixin's. I don't want any lace on my panties, either, thank you.

(3) Finally, as alluded to earlier, we ain't GOT none of them around here (except that there might be one at the Student Center at UVa-Wise 7 or 8 miles from here). Other than that, I'd have to drive 70-80 miles to get to one; just like I used to do (pre-Kindle) to visit a book store.

BUT, in recognition of Starbuck's reasonable approach to firearms carry, I will make a conscientious effort to locate a Starbuck's and hopefully an interpreter that speaks "new-age coffee" and overpay them for a cuppa joe come Valentine's day. Probably have to make that looong drive to take SWMBO out to dinner anyway.

What is it like out there? the furthest out I've been that way from Roanoke is Radford.

I met a person from a place called Tazewell who called Roanoke "the big city", and she was afraid to drive in it, which is weird because Roanoke is small. Is it true coal dust lands on cars and houses out there?
So rattle my bones all over the stones, I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns. Oh, see how words as old as sin, fit me like a glove.

You must understand...I've spent 70 years on this earth living in New York and Massachusetts :( It's going to take me a while to get used to FREEDOM! Seriously though, I have to drive through NY, NJ, and MD to get to VA and I just think having a VA CHP and a MA LTC will cover my arse better if I get stopped on the way.

Going to make it a goal to make this my first OC outing. Never really been "into" OC, but CC in this case would be pointless, no?

CC wouldn't be pointless if you talk to the manager and mention that you're there buying coffee because they respect your right to self defense.

not sure how much a va chp will help, and, unless you've already got one, the md permit is purportedly almost impossible to get. having a look at: http://www.handgunlaw.us/ shows that ny, nj and md don't honor any other states' permits. all look to be very difficult to get, for residents, and even less clear how tough for non-residents to get.
