I posted this in the SHOTGUN area but it dosn't appear many people visit there... Its been up for 4 hours and only received 1 view... So I thought I would post it here looking for answers... Hope I am not out of line... RON rgrecco wrote:I have been in the market for a Remington 870... I found one NEW at a store for $297... After Tax and Background Check it comes out to be about $315... How's that sound??? Good deal???
Problem is I have read some up and down reviews about problems with the 870... I am looking at it because I am very familiar with the operation being I use one and train with one at work... But... Thats a PD Version... I hear the civilian version has had some jaming / ejection problems...
Can anyone enlighten me and point me in the right direction...
If I do go with it I am going to be looking for a smooth bore barrel so that I can use my work ammo (Federial 12ga 1oz Tactical Rifled Slugs) instead of buying ammo... And also borrow some of the Departments LESS LEATHAL BEAN BAG ROUNDS for when my daughter gets older and is ready to date... JUST KIDDING...
I am looking to use the shotgun for Home Defence, and Hunting, and if I find any free time maybe give skeet/trap a try...
Hope to hear some point of views on this shotgun...
THANKS IN ADVANCE...

I had an 870 express and never had anything even close to an issue with it. The design is very solid IMO and the claims of low quality are exaggerated. YMMV

I have just heard about problems with the current 870 models... I hear that the Quality Control ain't what it use to be...
I hear the old 870's are build solid... but the current ones being build lack the quality...
I don't know if its true or now... Just what I am reading... Hope I don't go and waste $300 bucks on a piece of junk...
I am prob going the weekend of 1/14 to purchase it when my In-Laws get here and give me my Christmas Present... I asked for Gift Cards from everyone so that I could purchase the firearm with them...

In that case, look for an older 870. I see them for sale fairly regularly, either on here or on Virginia Gun Trader.

If you have one of the big box stores, Dick's or Bass Pro near you you may find them cheaper this time of year. You may even want to check at Walmart. I see them on sale at both Dick's and Bass Pro for $269 so give them a try. Good luck.
Why wouldn't you hold up the targets for me? It's a 9mm.

Why not pick up one of these? They're police surplus and ready to roll. I've laid eyes on them, they're all well used but in solid shape - $375 is a good deal. May want to swap the barrel and foreend if going hunting.
