I was over there last summer with SWMBO on a cruise to Turkey & Greece. I liked the Turks that I met. Seemed like good, solid folks; but then they were small business people - shop and hotel owners - or tour guides and bus drivers who probably didn't want to make customers mad OR uneasy. But they seemed pretty secular, well-educated, well-informed, reasonable and well-grounded to me. But as I said, I'm sure I didn't see anything like a true cross-section of Turks.

But they were also frankly very worried about the fact that fundamentalist Muslim factions held a majority of the seats in their governing body and were slowly chipping away at the constitutionally-mandated secularism of Turkish society, so Perry wasn't COMPLETELY out to lunch; just seriously so. They did pretty much agree with Perry on one thing: To a man, they despised Barack Obama. If I heard the phrase "Obama is no friend of America's allies" once, I heard it 6 times. Must have been some famous politician's quote or something.

Wise people those Turks!

Perry is an idiot, but the Turks are justified in mistrusting Obama.

That flotilla incident could have been handled better by everyone involved, and Obama ditched the Turks, a long-time ally of ours.

Perry is done, he has been for a while, and he probably knows it. Perhaps he is seeing how many "final nails" he can collect for his coffin.
