Well, the government isn't telling you that you have to breast feed, just someone in the medical field is going to point out why it's more beneficial for you to breast feed than bottle feed. Granted the government shouldn't have to force that conversation, but since that is WAY outside my area of expertise I have no idea what the benefits are. I was just surprised to hear that there are breast feeding advocacy groups. Like, really??

Hmm... I fully support breast feeding, and I believe it to be (under normal circumstances) the best option. However, mandating this by law is in violation of ones right to raise their child as they see fit. This is just as bad as having to ask permission to home school your child.

Yeah, they have have advocacy groups for everything, now. I'm fixxin to start one for mullets and mutton chops.

While they may not be denying baby formula, that article did state that each bottle shall come with a lecture. I feel for those who will inevitably be giving the same lecture to the same person twenty times in a day. That's just asinine.

Once, I knew all of the benefits of breast feeding, as opposed to bottle feeding. Part of the fun of many younger snivelings and a home school education. I got to attend all the pregnancy stuff when I was a kid.

Are you freaking kidding me? No bag lunches in some districts, no big drinks, no formula - WTF are we becoming? No wonder it seems people today are sniveling, self-centered, rude, whinging, entitled citizens. The state is nannying them.

For those who do not have the mammary organs, and have not had to make the decision.

Breast feeding over all is far superior to formula. Formula has a hard time replicating what the body can do.

The mothers milk carries antibodies, and all the nutrients a baby will need. Also everything the mother eats the baby gets exposed to. The latter can be good and bad. If the baby ends up being allergic to fish/nuts/eggs/ etc, the baby can get sick, as it will pas through the mother to the baby.

However, if everyone is healthy, and the baby will latch properly and the mother can and has enough milk to produce. (note, some women are just unable to breast feed, for any number of reasons, both medical, physical, and personal, also it hurts like hell at least for me for the first few months.)

I just don't like any government institution telling me I have to do something. If I felt like formula is the way to go, that is my decision. Who the hell do they think they are to lecture me every time they bring a bottle.

For those without baby experience. Newborns tend to eat every 2 to 3 hours. So getting a lecture every 2 to 3 hours because of your convictions. F that Sh$t.

Next Bloombastard, is going to tell women that they cannot wear tampons due to the risk of toxic shock, so now they all have to wear pads... and will conduct regular inspections, and lecture those who are not conforming.

forgot to mention, there are many other reasons for breast feeding it helps the mother as well... it triggers your body to produce hormones, and to slow the bleeding etc. I just touched on a few of the reasons to breast feed. There are activists for everything. Most breast feeding ones that I have heard about just want to teach and inform, but don't want to force. *shakes head*

I am going to work out to and try to forget at least for the duration of work out that this sh&t is happening.

Improper wiping after defecation can cause bacterial infection. Mr Bloomberg is going to appoint a special task force to ensure everyone wipes correctly.

Men surprisingly enough do have functional yet atrophied mammary glands including the milk ducts; ours just never get activated to do anything like they are in female puberty.

This is why we can get (albeit very rarely) breast cancer or lactate (galactorrhea) in the setting if a severe hormonal imbalance.

We even have a form of uterine tissue, the prostatic urticle which consist of endometrial cells identical to thsoe in the uterus and can actually cause endometriosis in men.

The more you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fracking idiot

While I breast fed both of my babies... I am speechless. That is just going to far. It is for a mother to decide not for the government to tell me I have to breast feed.

I am a bit of a lacticvist (person who supports breast feeding). I nursed each one of my children to the age of two. I am also 100% against the state "lecturing" moms when they choose formula. Feed the child, breastmilk is best but formula is sufficient. Instead of lectures and locking up formula make a lactation consultant available for any mom who wants help breast feeding. Stop trying to control people lives, God gave them life, let them live as they choose Bloomyboy.

When our oldest was born, the "fad" or "trend" was to encourage formula; or at least appeared to be. By the time our youngest was born, it had gone the other way (we had also moved from SW VA to Charlottesville, so we'd time-travelled about 50 years or so into the future in terms of medical care). My daughter and her first little girl had the services of one of those "lactation consultants" down in Raleigh. Kid took spells of crying sometimes like she was hungry, but wouldn't nurse. "Lactation Consultant decreed that if the kid went hungry for a while, by and by she'd nurse. SWMBO discharged the time-honored mountain tradition of butting in and telling her daughter how to raise the young'un. Daughter and grandaughter were both OK when daughter finally decided to take her momma's advice, run the "lactation consultant" off, and occasionally supplement breast milk with formula. Kid continued to nurse, but didn't have to go hungry sometimes. You'd have thought, to hear the consultant muling and puking about it, that they were talking about cutting the kid's big toe off or something instead of giving the kid a couple of ounces of formula occasionally. Appears to me that the right answer depends on the question, and that depends upon the circumstances.

But as for any agency of any government involving itself in how MY children (now grandchildren) are fed, I think if asked my answer would be that ain't none of their DAMN business. And if not asked, I'd volunteer the information. Seems to me that how momma employs the twins ought to be strictly between momma, daddy, and maybe junior.

Not everyone can nurse 100%. I am blessed to be able to do so. However with my eldest when I had to work he had one bottle of formula and one of pumped breast milk. Formula can feed a child. Sorry you had such a lousy experience with a lactation nurse. I have had nothing but wonderful experiences and it was a lactation consultant that helped me feel better about giving Anthony a little formula because I had such a hard time pumping at work (taking pressure off of a young mom just trying to make things work). There are good ones and bad ones in every field I guess. However the govt needs to BUTT OUT of the conversation.
