Old knife, anyone know ?

Postby fuze » Wed, 14 Dec 2011 22:22:48

I've had this old dagger, well... long as I can remember. I'd forgot I had it until I found it in my junk box today. Never looked into it much till now, and I'm having a hard time finding much info...

Anyone know anything about this thing ?

Blade say

IMCO
SOLINGEN
GERMANY
STAINLESS

It's really heavy, I assume the handle and sheath are brass.

Blade is in pretty good shape, never sharpened it or use it. Just always had it laying around in my junk boxes.

If you did a google search, you probably found this:

That has some insight on Imco, though, not much.

Wikipedia has an entry on Solingen, Germany; seems that they are known for blades.

Typically, stainless steel is used for cheap knives (according to 2 avid knife collectors that I have met, one of which made knives when his hands were younger)

Other Imco blades that the internet turned up were made sometime between the 40's and 60's.

I've managed to find 1 exactly like it, but unfortunately I still don't know anything about it. Taking it to an antique dealer today.
