Well we finally part company. Am I right to assume that you've given up?
I've participated in local primary elections. It's really uncertain whose going to take the lead in primaries and come away from the pack to win. This is why we flood the zone with Constitutional Minded Candidates and Supporters. These sessions are more chaos than contrived. These are the proving grounds. I have been greatly heartened by the younger activists I've met who recognize the process isn't rigged. This game is on.
Maybe politicians don't read the laws they vote for and pass. But they work like the dickens to get back in office every time. Once they stop working hard to get elected, then I'll know the fix is in. While they are still sweating it out to win, we can still beat them.
Roger that.
Given up? No. I still vote and I gave money last cycle to candidates I liked. I encouraged other to vote (still do) and explained why I liked certain candidates. Some agreed some didn't. Managing expectations because these things happen about once a decade or so with no long term results? Yes. The last time this happened in the Republican party was 94'. Elected a whole bunch of new guys who on paper were great, but in reality became as corrupt as those kicked out within months. The system isn't rigged for say, but rather the parties tightly control the money and make sure those who don't tow the line are not supported by the national party. I won't like it, but I won't be surprised if post November the anger goes away, but nothing changes. Just like 94', people thought the job was done and got on with their lives. In the meantime, government got busy doing the same thing it always does, increase power and the tax base. Politicians do work hard to get back in office. However, the only time they listen to their constituents is the couple of months before an election. We have a couple of threads like that around here. The two party system isn't rigged, it is designed to provide maximum success for the party. We the people are the losers...how many times do we argue over voting for the lesser of two evils. A lot. Several of the founders warned us against the two party system because of these exact problems. Winning has become more important than what you actually won. Getting a RINO in office isn't a win, it is a loss, we just need to quantify the loss. Most of the voters stay home because A. they don't care or B. they hate both candidates. In general, we have awful turnout rates. How many Americans feel that voting is pointless because the debate isn't between real, Constitutional, limited government and everything else, but rather is just about details of how to expand government. Do we expand social programs or the military? Who do we blame. The end result is always the same, bigger government. I didn't say it was impossible, but rather that it is unlikely. Based on the financial data alone, the USA is unlikely to recover in anything but name. E.g. France is still France, but it isn't the same governments.

Wow, this one has really gone off topic, hasn't it? And since it has, here's a real, live California Liberal's point of view on this. You want better candidates? Then VOTE THEM IN! Do *not* vote for either Democracks or Republicrumbs. Both suck. Vote anything else that meets with your conscience, be they Libertarians, Greens, Constitution Party members, Independents (e. g. Kinky Friedman a couple years ago in his bid for TX Governor), or whatever else. Jesse Ventura made it. Others can, too. But...YOU HAVE TO VOTE FOR THEM for that to happen. Pixie dust ain't gonna cut it. It takes votes, people. YOU must get off the two-party bandwagon for this to happen. I have. Will you?

+1 Exactly, why I argue against voting for the lesser of two evils. It only encourages them.

Oliver North says NRA won't endorse ReidFrom an article by North: Mid-Summer Madness, 8/17/2010 "During a campaign event in Las Vegas this week, the liberal icon [Harry Reid] boldly told supporters, “I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK? Do I need to say more?” Nope." "Reid has lost the endorsement of the National Rifle Association and been introduced to Congressional Republican colleagues: Senator Mel Martinez; Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Lincoln & Mario Diaz-Balart and U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio. He has also been reminded that the slogan, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” really isn’t true. It’s just heated rhetoric." http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=38539

Thanks for posting that article Chasbo00!
So it looks like the NRA isn't backing Reid for his 2A stance, after all. I thought the NRA was a 2A organization, first, last and always, isn't that right? Reid has a slip at the lip (unsurprisingly) and he's dropped for a comment about Hispanics (Richard Nixon's word).
Read the bylaws folks. The oath they take to be on the board of the NRA is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. The whole thing. Sure they point to 2A in particular, I give you that. At least they got their minds right even if they had to do so in some sort of tortured way. A poor excuse is better than none, as they say.
BTW- I rejoined at the last Chantilly Show. Wasn't sure I would, but I did. Now it's time to take back the NRA. More on that later.
Thanks again for the update!

I am a life member, I enjoy their magazine, but they had a coup d'tat in the NRA, I would probably be okay with that factor. I think Uncle Ted needs to stage an uprising with Ollie in the NRA... Making back room deals, and being a "hanger on" to the good works of others, and trying to avoid "stirring the hornet's nest". In the past 6-7 years, I have lost quite a bit of respect for the NRA. It's why I joined the VCDL, and GOA.
