I'd be looking at gun shows in your area for older Smiths. I think there's a big one on the weekend of Feb 10, 11 & 12 at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly

Success on the Smith and Wesson at the Nation's Gun Show. I landed a pretty nice pencil barrel 10-5 from the 1970s. Price was somewhat premium, but then again the condition was really good and it appears to have seen little use. Good call on the gun show idea, there were actually several 10s there, and the particular one I got grabbed my eye the best of them. It's a pencil barrel .38 special. It seems as though it will be a simple, solid gun, though the real proof will be when I take it to the range sometime soon.
My fiancee found that she really does like the feel of the PPQ, though passed on it for the time being because she thought the prices a little on the high side. $520 or so was about the best price she found, though I guess shows are known for being on the high side of price. Then again, these seem to be out there and at a variety of places, whereas the Smith was more a specific, older item that would be harder to find a selection for in person. I do see her getting it sometime this spring, at least.

I've bought some guns from Dark Sun a few years back. The guy that seemed to run the "show" at the Gun Shows just treated me like crap every time I tried to look at, pick up, buy a gun. I eventually quit even stopping to look at their tables. I haven't seem him at the Dark Sun tables the last 4 or 5 shows so maybe he either got promoted "up" in the organization or "out" of the organization. I may start looking their tables over again in the future and buying something when I see the right price on the right gun. There is more to getting a good deal than just the price. If the service or attitude is for crap then I'll pay a little more somewhere else to deal with a better attitude.
