He should have checked state laws before entering. Carrying jewelry worth that much, no wonder why he was carrying. Regardless, *sigh*.

Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun lawI know what you mean. I'm not trying to be a jerk about this, but it's not that difficult to find information about the states you are going to be traveling in. There have been several reports about the Tea Party lawyer and the woman from TN that were arrested for having a weapon in NY, so I don't understand how he didn't know.
Hopefully, he won't get hammered to hard, but I don't see how he can get out of this without some jail time.
Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun lawwww.handgunlaw.us is the best nationwide source, but it should be double-checked with information from a state's appropriate agency.
Competition is one of the great levelers of ego.
Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun lawI do have to (reluctantly) agree that he should have been more diligent in his research. Same thing goes for the other lady that got hit for the same thing, in the same time-frame.
But, while I find that they are certainly guilty of bad research, which makes them undeniably guilty of breaking the law, the whole damn thing is asinine. It's just ridiculous that one has to research everywhere they go just to see if they are permitted to carry their weapon over a particular border. This was brought up over at Gun Rights Media, too. One of the posters pointed out that now would be a good time to express outrage over an unjust law, to whatever relevant authority has place to hear us. "God Almighty created simplicity. Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun lawYou folks just don't understand how things are done in NY.
A few years ago a (of course non-diverse American) pizza shop owner in Yonkers hit a diverse-American once in the head with a bat, and he died a few hours later. The fact the diverse-American was in the process of stomping the pizza shop owners elderly father to death was irrelevant. He got 20+. In 2008 a Yonkers police officer fractured a 15 year old girls skull by repeatedly picking her up and slamming her into the ground on video because she wouldn't stop asking him if her friend was Ok (the girls friend was passed out or something). He got zilch zip nada not even a slap on the wrist. Thats NY in a nutshell. This guys gonna get some time. So rattle my bones all over the stones, I'm only a beggar-man whom nobody owns. Oh, see how words as old as sin, fit me like a glove.
I'm here and here I'll stay.
Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun lawSure, I understand... vaguely. The simple understanding of something does not make it right, though.
Part of the reason that I avoid NY is my vague understanding of it. "God Almighty created simplicity. Complexity, inspired by the Great Deceiver, tends to be the province of men. " S. H. M., IV
Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun law@shmiv: I agree that it is crazy and while they did break the law, they should get punished. However, I think the 3.5 yr prison sentence and felony conviction are asinine. I could see a misdemeanor charge and a fine (1st offense) and then increasing it if there is another offense.
@Kreutz: I've read other posts about the "elite" NYPD and how they feel they are above the law. Unfortunately, until something like that gains massive media attention and a lawyer or rights group steps in and sues, that will not change. This is one of the reasons I wont visit NY, NJ, IL and a few others. They have higher crime stats, but terrorize and punish the law abiding citizens with archaic gun laws. Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun law
I struggle with this, too. Something that I do all the time, legally, here in VA makes me a criminal because I've passed some sign on the interstate that says "Welcome to ____________". Some welcome... ![]()
Re: Marine arrested in NY for violating gun lawSadly I have to venture to that god-forsaken state a few times a year. They are insane there. Don't go there unless you must.
